About this listen
The 26th instalment of the Number One bestselling series
'The master of the police procedural' Mail on Sunday
'The Alan Banks mystery-suspense novels are the best series on the market. Try one and tell me I'm wrong' Stephen King
***
A skinny young boy is found dead - his body carelessly stuffed into wheelie bin.
Detective Superintendent Alan Banks and his team are called to investigate. Who is the boy, and where did he come from? Was he discarded as rubbish, or left as a warning to someone? He looks Middle Eastern, but no one on the East Side Estate has seen him before.
As the local press seize upon an illegal immigrant angle, and the national media the story of another stabbing, the police are called to investigate a less newsworthy death: a middle-aged heroin addict found dead of an overdose in another estate, scheduled for redevelopment.
Banks finds the threads of each case seem to be connected to the other, and to the dark side of organised crime in Eastvale. Does another thread link to his friend Zelda, who is facing her own dark side?
The truth may be more complex - or much simpler - than it seems . . .

Too Repetitive
Having read all Peter Robinsons Bank Series to Date this and the last have become laborious- ultra violent and with endings that require one to read the next instalment - a manipulative pull missing from his earlier works. And how many times do we need an explanation? The plot of Zelda was the only interesting thing but no one likes an anti hero and do we really need eyes pulled out of heads and spilled guts? The violence gets boring - but one can see the Made for TV imagery! A real shame as Robinson is an excellent writer and doesn’t need it

Banks on a Roll
Another satisfying Banks.
The underlying theme running through the last two novels suggests an interesting future resolution. We shall see!

Enjoyed it just as much as his previous books
I enjoyed this story just as much as the other DCI Banks. Yes, the character is changing, as we all do. I was sorry to see some of the negative reviews, very unfairly based on the fact that the new heroine is from Moldova and Peter Robinson touches on the Brexit divide and some of the negative effects. He has always touched on current political or historic affairs in his books, has always pointed to the negative consequences or effects, this is no different, but for the fact that Brexit is all to current, fresh and still a sore point. My point is that the negative reviews are undeserved and the book is just as good as his others in the series, a good story.

Past his best?
This series seemed to be becoming tired and bored with itself - like Banks himself, Plot develops too slowly and it feels like we are being taken for granted as an audience this far in to the series. Shake it up a bit please Mr Robinson.

Could Be A Two Hour Abridgement
I used to love this author. But this book is terrible. Whole chapters devoted to his past love interests and pointless side issues, converstions going on about meaningless drivel with nothing to do with the story. I am sure just to fill a very thin plotline. It could easily be abridged to just two hours and then at least you would have the actual storyline! I rarely give very bad reviews but this one deserved one such. Sorry, Peter, I may try one more in the future, but if anything like this is going back!
