Summary

57 BC. The fearsome Belgae have gathered a great army to oppose Rome, and Fronto and the legions assemble once more to take Caesar's war against the most dangerous tribes in the northern world.

While the legions battle the Celts in the fiercest war of Caesar's career, the plots and conspiracies against him, both at Rome and among his own army, become ever deeper and more dangerous.

Great Sequal

The fortunes of Frontus and his friends are revealed in this, the second book of the Mules series. As witty, brilliantly researched and well written as the first, it follows the Roman army’s exploits in Gaul. Brilliant battles and fights, engaging characters, over and sub plots enough for the most demanding listener. If you like your protagonists larger than life, your history accurate and your stories face paced you’ll love this.

Another Great Marius’ Mules Adventure

I absolutely loved this, as I did it’s predecessor.
Malcolm Williams did another great job in bringing Mr. Turney’s
Characters and Story alive.
When I first Discovered S.J.A. Turney, I thought that here’s another Author that is having a go at an already saturated market. After reading some rather awful Roman Military Historical Fiction by an American Author who had decided that Roman Military Ranks & Soldiers were the same as the U.S. Marines, I was very skeptical towards Authors who I’d not heard of at that point in time. I’m so glad I discovered him. Wow I have really enjoyed this series and others from him. I’m a Veteran, and to be honest like Simon Scarrow, S.J.A. Turney has captured the essence of what being a Soldier means. These ‘Mules’ Novels are absolutely incredible. I didn’t think that Scarrow would have any competition in this market oh, he has now. Whether you read or listen your in for a treat. As with Bernard Cornwell, Simon Scarrow, Ben Kane and Anthony Riches; to name a few Authors, the Historical details and research is very highly done. Highly Recommended

SO much laughing!

Great story, but intolerable overuse of 'laughed' and 'smiled ' and every possible derivative. Once noticed this book becomes unreadable.

Repetitive

White the Universe is interesting, the story unfortunately becomes the opposite. soldier-gruff only gets you so far. My journey ends here.

Very good

I quite enjoyed this story, I just wish Fronto had a bit more depth, a back story maybe of family and early life, it would give another dimension to his character.

A good sequel

The narrator identifies the characters very well. A pleasure to listen to the story and imagine the scenes.
