Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray, read by Jonathan Davis.
An unexpected offer threatens the bond between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as the two Jedi navigate a dangerous new planet and an uncertain future.
A Jedi must be a fearless warrior, a guardian of justice, and a scholar in the ways of the Force. But perhaps a Jedi’s most essential duty is to pass on what they have learned. Master Yoda trained Dooku; Dooku trained Qui-Gon Jinn; and now Qui-Gon has a Padawan of his own. But while Qui-Gon has faced all manner of threats and danger as a Jedi, nothing has ever scared him like the thought of failing his apprentice.
Obi-Wan Kenobi has deep respect for his Master, but struggles to understand him. Why must Qui-Gon so often disregard the laws that bind the Jedi? Why is Qui-Gon drawn to ancient Jedi prophecies instead of more practical concerns? And why wasn’t Obi-Wan told that Qui-Gon is considering an invitation to join the Jedi Council—knowing it would mean the end of their partnership? The simple answer scares him: Obi-Wan has failed his Master.
When Jedi Rael Aveross, another former student of Dooku, requests their assistance with a political dispute, Jinn and Kenobi travel to the Royal Court of Pijal for what may be their final mission together. What should be a simple assignment quickly becomes clouded by deceit, and by visions of violent disaster that take hold in Qui-Gon’s mind. As Qui-Gon’s faith in prophecy grows, Obi-Wan’s faith in him is tested—just as a threat surfaces which will demand that Master and Apprentice come together as never before, or be divided forever.

Fantastic, character focused story
Master and Apprentice is a fantastic story that gives us a deeper look at Obi-wan and Qui-Gons relationship. Once again, excellently narrated by Jonathan Davis, and written by Claudia Gray. The book also introduces two of the most interesting new characters to the Star Wars canon, the grizzled cowboy-like jedi Rael Aveross, and the lovably pompous Pax Maripher. A deeper look at both those characters would be welcome. The best prequel-era Star Wars book in the new canon.

Ok
It was ok. Performance was good. But the story really wasn't anything special.
Slow start, interesting middle. But in the end it falls flat on its face.

A nice, if skippable story.
The unavoidable hurdle with prequels, is that, unless you're uninitiated, you probably already know how certain things are going to shake out. I also don't expect anyone unfamiliar with Star Wars to pick up a book like this. That being the case, this story feels a little kneecapped in the stakes department. The crux of the character drama in this one is a decision that we already know the outcome of between characters whose ultimate relationship we already know. Having said that prequels do offer unique opportunities to leverage knowledge of future events in such a way as to reward fans without punishing newcomers. Unfortunately this book doesn't really do that. There's one character-point that, if you know your Star Wars might give you a chuckle and have you anticipating something, but when that moment came I found it kind of underwhelming. Add to that the fact that the villains of the piece seem a little nonsensical and unnecessary. It's not a deal-breaker though, they're there to facilitate development between the main two characters, but the story leaves you a little too aware of that.
All that said though, it is still a very well-narrated and fun bit of character writing that fleshes out a relationship that didn't really get all the screen-time it could've used in The Phantom Menace. There is a stand-out new character in one of Qui-Gon's sibling students who makes for a fun addition, but on the whole I'd recommend this strictly to those who like Qui Gon and Obi-Wan and want to spend more time with them at an early stage in their relationship. Not required reading but I had fun with it.

Honestly one of the best Star Wars Audiobooks
The performance of Jonathan Davis in this audiobook is just on another level. His Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan Kenobi impressions are out of this world, especially his Qui-Gon Jinn voice. Truly one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to, like I’m sure he could beat Liam Neeson in a Qui-Gon Jinn soundalike competition, he is that good.

A wonderful glimpse in their relation
This book offers a perfect closer look at Obi Wan and Qui Gon's relation and struggles as padawan and master.
It offers the very feel of true Star Wars and of the Prequel era, along much more, being also rich in lore.
The soundtracks, the voice acting and the amazing story are flawless and keep you on edge from beginning to end.
The book ultimately only strenghtend my love for Qui Gon, my favourite Jedi.

Feels like drags on too much
Was looking forward to this book with two of my favourite characters but if I'm honest it never gripped me. Just finished listening all three Darth Bane books and these were amazing and gripping, where this book feels a bit pedestrian.

Amazing
The story is incredible and Jonathan Davis does a fantastic job of both reading the story and imitating Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor's voices.
