Summary

"The Circuit knows everything about you...because they are you.

Ascension eve

Jake Montana waits for the letter every 18-year-old receives on their birthday. It’s the one from the Circuit. It’s the one that determines the rest of your life. Your life partner, job, home, and crucially, your importance factor are all selected for you. In the year 2054 your "importance factor" is everything, but it’s not random. It’s based on a detailed assessment of every thought, emotion, and memory you’ve ever stored in your Memory Cloud since the first day you received the implants. Your fate, the Circuit insists, is always yours.

But the future that Jake most wants won’t be inside his letter. It can’t be. His childhood sweetheart Christie won’t reach her Ascension Day for months, so it’s impossible that her name will appear. He’s right, but there are bigger surprises in store for him. The Memory Cloud has chosen a life for Jake that no one would want. A life that will lead to the murky world of the Spectrum, a community who denounce the Circuit and refuse to comply to their rules. A life designed to keep Jake from Christie and to hide the truth that lives deep inside him.

A truth that the Circuit will stop at nothing to keep from the world...

good listen.

I enjoyed the story, the voice acting took a bit of getting used to and the story took a while to find its stride but once it did I enjoyed it.
Bit of an unexpected cliff hanger at the end which I didn't particularly enjoy. It feels like the story was intentionally left un-resolved to get me to buy the next book. I would happily listen to the next book even if they had resolved this narrative in the first book.

Excellent

Must admit, this appealed to me as Aubrey was narrating. Really enjoyed the book, very uncertain where it was going, plenty of huh? going on. I found it hard to stop listening. So pleased to find out at the end there is a follow up book. Trots off to download the next book...

Another fantastic performance

Absolutely addicted to the Tony Moyle books now. Every one superb from start to finish. Even better on the second listen. Tony Moyles writing and Aubrey Parsons narrating are the perfect combination. Gutted I have to wait for the next episode but happy it will give me time to listen to them all again first. Back to The End Of The World Is Nigh it is then.

If Facebook ran the world! *shudders*

If Facebook ran the world, it would be this world.
A well written dystopian future where the population have importance ratings.
A live feed that records their every movement and thought is ported in to each members brain, along with advertising of course.
But the seemingly perfect world, absent of hunger, war or poverty is controlled by a sinister force that runs everything for the humans. From assigning jobs and importance ratings to arranged marriages and predestined futures.
Jake Montana has the secrets needed to change all that, unknown to him, locked in his head. But he'll literally need to fight the system to unlock those memories and attempt to get his life back.

Techno Utopia Distopia Adventure

This is pure technical fiction. There’s no science as plausible background to the high tech brain implants. The scenarios are adventurous but quite unbelievable when it comes to the techno babble. It’s a confusing story even though there are long rambling scenes explaining scenery, tech hardware, and how the computer system supposedly works. Each aspect contradicts the next and nothing seems likely. If the attempts at science were removed the action sequences in this book would be fun and exciting. Too much filler text to wade through that only confuses the listener of this audiobook. The narrator though, he’s superb as always.
