One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

Between the ages of 12 and 24, the brain changes in important and often maddening ways. It’s no wonder that many parents approach their child’s adolescence with fear and trepidation. According to renowned neuropsychiatrist Daniel Siegel, however, if parents and teens can work together to form a deeper understanding of the brain science behind all the tumult, they will be able to turn conflict into connection and form a deeper understanding of one another. In Brainstorm, Siegel illuminates how brain development affects teenagers’ behaviour and relationships.

In this culmination of his life's work, Peter A. Levine draws on his broad experience as a clinician, a student of comparative brain research, a stress scientist, and a keen observer of the naturalistic animal world to explain the nature and transformation of trauma in the body, brain and psyche. In an Unspoken Voice is based on the idea that trauma is neither a disease nor a disorder but rather an injury caused by fright, helplessness, and loss that can be healed by engaging our innate capacity to self-regulate high states of arousal and intense emotions.

Summary
A scientist's exploration into the mysteries of the human mind.
Neuroscience studies the brain, but what does science have to say about the mind? A full examination of what we mean by the term "mind" has traditionally been the province of philosophers, but what might neuroscience teach us about it? How does the mind differ from consciousness? And how do we know who we really are?
In this book, noted neuroscientist and New York Times bestselling author Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., brings his characteristic sensitivity and interdisciplinary background to this most perplexing of topics. He explores the nature of the who, how, what, why, and when of your mind - of your self - from the perspective of neuroscience. Mind is the essence of our true nature, our deepest sense of being alive, here, right now, in this moment. How science explains it is truly one of the most exciting journeys into knowledge we can take.

The science of spirituality
An excellent thoughtful deep dive into the mind and how to achieve wellness. It's very refreshing to hear spiritual ideas broken down and analysed from the perspective of science.
I found it to be a bit of a struggle at times as there is a lot of repetition. I felt the message could have been delivered in half the time. However, the content was so valuable this issue didn't reduce my score and I would recommend it in a heartbeat to those interested in the topic.

If you ever wondered if there could be a clear and consilientbreading of the teachings of ancient wisdom and the findings of modern science, neuroscience/brain science then you have found it here with Dr. Dan’s book on Mind. In my experience, this is the most brilliant reading and explanation of systems theory and the implications of the findings of modern science and their ancient roots in the teachings of the wisdom of liberation. didn't enjoy it at all
This book is such a rambling mess that I thought we'd accidentally gone back to the intro when in reality we were on chapter five. Vague. Incoherent at times. Concepts are often restated without any reference to evidence or data. Plenty of good books on the topic exist. Felt like this one was wasted time.

Manufactured profundity and pseudo science
This book is stack of baseless assertions masquerading as science and insight. Starting from an unsubstantiated conclusion that the mind is of a quantum persuasion, Dr. Siegel spends twenty hours building self-referential conclusions about his theories. The entire book goes about defining mind and the definition of mind using a logical framework that will be familiar to anyone who has ever watched a YouTube conspiracy video. Never before have I read or listened to a book that builds a house of cards on the repeating premise of "It may be that A is true", and in the next chapter states "because A is true, it may be that B is true." This stack of logical non-sequiter builds up to Z, in this case.
Dr. Siegel clearly understands that he is doing this, because he often wanders close to the truth, yet misleads the reader on it more often than not. Throughout this book, I wondered if he was a fool or a charlatan. I suspect the latter, but don't intend on reading more of his work to build evidence one way or another.
