About this listen
Seven years ago, Miss Hayes’ world was turned upside down when she lost her father, her betrothed, and any prospect of a comfortable future. Too proud to live upon the charity of others, she became a teacher at Miss Wolfraston’s Seminary for Young Ladies.
She has no wish to reenter the society that turned its back on her. But she has spent five years nurturing her pupil, Miss Charlotte Fletcher, and when she is asked to be her companion for the summer, her affection for the young lady overcomes her reservations.
As ghosts from her past come back to haunt her, feelings long buried begin to surface. By confronting her demons, can she begin to forge a new future?

Another great story from Jenny Hambly.
I have loved these books since the first series, Bachelor Brides. It's been so absorbing to see the author develop her own personal style, full of accurate descriptions of the regency period which would interest anyone..
As the writing develops, so have the characters, and Miss Hayes is by far the best yet. Full of depth, intrigue and the expected romance. The story is so well described one can almost smell the stableyard, the summer fields and the old houses.
My only frustration is knowing a new book is available, but having to wait for the audiobook... like being given a new car before your 18th birthday and you are not able to drive it.
