Summary

As the first anniversary of the formation of the Kings Lake murder squad approaches, there is a problem—they've run out of murders. As a result, they are given the task of reviewing unsolved cold cases. One of these comes back to life in unexpected ways as the team try to discover the identity of the young woman whose body was found in the Norfolk countryside two decades ago. And even if they can give her a name, how can they possibly find her killer after so many years?

Very sympathetically handled

Another great story, so different to the others but still interesting and very compelling. Had to finish it today!!

They just get better.

I cant stop listening to these books. I love DC Smith and his very dry sence of humour. Walters and Butler have evolved together from book one.

Missing some of the usual punch.

Beautifully written and sublime narration, as always. For me though, the story lacked a bit of something, and I felt from the early stages where it was going. I also predicted the end so no surprises for me.

Another great story - but justice is needed for Waters’ fish!

Another beautifully written and narrated story. I’ve listened to all the DC Smith series and am enjoying this series just as much. I’m always impressed at how the author carries and processes the back story of the various characters so consistently across the series. So I was surprised that DS Waters’ guppies etc, which played an impact role in the previous book, have been forgotten, with the DS and Miriam talking about the fact that he has no pets. Justice is needed for these crime-fighting creatures!

A twenty year old cold case challenges the team

I am loving this series more and more as it builds. A cold case makes an interesting new angle for the team. Walter’s back story continues to develop with Miriam’s family too - loved it - now on to the next (I will be gutted when this series ends!)

Superb

As always, a great story with twists and turns, beautifully written English and simply the best narration yo could imagine, this story is also very moving and takes the characters to new and interesting depths.

The Originality of the characters and the contrasting plots, holds a quality that is consistent in every book.

I loved this story, both intriguing in how the plot unravels, and backed by very thoughtful, well expressed quieter moments.
The author is brilliant- the narrator could not be improved - he elevates the author’s skill even further.

Another good read

I have enjoyed all of the books so far in the King’s Lake and DC Smith series. The narrator is brilliant and brings the characters to life (particularly DC Smith who crops up from time to time in the King’s Lake books). Perfect!

Brilliant as always

Another Lake story, of chracters you will want to know, written and read with aplomb. I have loved every one if these books and hope to be able listen to them all again sometime in the future. Thank you Mr Peter Grainger for a beautifully written and researched book about characters you want to know, (and a couple you'd like to slap!) and another twisty tale lovingly laid out and the pathways for us to follow, and for the many superlative voices of the narrator, Mr Gildart Jackson
