The journey begins when Matthew, now an apprentice problem solver for the London-based Herrald Agency, accepts an unusual and hazardous commission. Together with his colleague, Hudson Greathouse, he agrees to escort the notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter from an asylum outside Philadelphia to the docks of New York. Along the way, Slaughter makes his captors a surprising - and extremely tempting - offer. Their response to this offer will alter the course of the novel, setting in motion a series of astonishing, ultimately catastrophic events.
Mister Slaughter is at once a classic portrait of an archetypal serial killer and an exquisitely detailed account of a fledgling nation still in the process of inventing itself. Sweeney Todd goes to New York!
This book in the series was back to the quality of the first one and there was a lot more action and a little more pace. The characters again were excellent and plenty of humour in places.
If anything, I became a little impatient in parts for the plot to deliver the twists I'd seen coming a mile away, but I really didn't mind so much as it was so enjoyable.

A good yarn, spoiled by effete narration
I almost gave up on this after 10 minutes due to the effeminate narrator. I kept going and found the story was very good, if slightly less than believable. Part of a series, but this isn't essential for understanding.

Oh Mathew !!!!
I had to get this second book after listening to the first. I am about to start on the third book. Really enjoying this series. Great story, great narration and not easy to put down.

gripping!
Where does Mister Slaughter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
From all the books ive listened to over last few years this book this series gripped me from the beginning and has become one of my firm favourites.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Mister Slaughter?
There were several memorable parts in the book and the way the twists and turns happen keep you desperate to find out what is happening next. The several plots are brilliantly interwoven and take you way off the predictable outcomes!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Def. I loved where it went plus the way it was read brought it to life so well

Glad I took a achance on first book as that led me to the series. I was disappointed when I came to the end of the books. Keen to see how Matthew gets on

great historical thriller

Good, diverse characters. Plausible plot. Kept my attention and interest. Very well read.
Varied scenarios. Fast moving.
