One for the internet audience

This book would appeal to those of us who have been following Dina on social media for many years. This book is now even more interesting considering recent developments. Her liberal, broad minded views in the last few chapters are particularly refreshing and I think the most powerful part of the book. Well done Dina!

Interesting and fun to listen to.

Wow, what a book. I have spent four days listening to this and it was very fun. I thought this book is going to be all about her journey and problems with the hijab, but actually it is more than that, it is about life lessons etc. It is really good to listen to. I don't sometimes agree with Dina's style, but whatever she has a great personality and this was a really good first book! However, I do think the title of the book 'modestly' could have been different, due to the different things she talks about. Overall, it was really good and well done. Will there be another book coming out soon?

I love dina torkia

I think shes jus a normal honest woman just tryna live a normal life but all her principles and morals are displayed so elegantly that she is a good representative of us British Muslim women. There are no gimmicks no fakeness, just a woman who shares her work, who celebrates her success and learns from her mistakes but never loses herself. This book is a great insight into her life and I wish her the very best in shaa Allah 😊

All young women should read this book at least once

Gets better...

Upon reading it at first, I was a tad sceptical and wasn't sure if this was the book for me. But I really loved Dina's last few chapters, and her honesty throughout, couldn't agree more with her life lessons!

Terribly disappointing

Waste of money and time.Complete hyprocite & fake.Props to the PR team for timing.Just another money making scheme using the hijab as a means to fill her pockets before completely disregarding it.No class or dignity to the very material that got her noticed in the first place.Biggest let down

Okay-ish

If you like listening to someone rant. Than this book is for you. it’s almost as if she’s just filmed a video and then written the script in a book and regurgitated it in audio format verbatim.
This books starts with a brief summary into her upbringing- she goes into a discourse on Islamic theology- her two cents on the tenets of faith/cultural appropriation/ mental health etc- topics which should be addressed thoroughly are given a 30 sec opinion from her view point.
It’s almost like a- Hi I’ve been invited onto a talk show to discuss my life- kind of book. A tad bit annoying.
However, her chapters on mother hood and marriage are nice to listen to as is her thoughts and experiences with the fashion industry and using the Muslim platform to increase sales.

Not what I'd call a traditional book...

It felt like one long YouTube video. The performance was at times difficult to listen to, as it sounded like an awkward and unnatural read to my ears. The book itself seemed to touch on many interesting topics from religious theology, family, marriage and motherhood to Fashion and the political, personal and social religious climate. I did however, feel as though it left more to be desired, as each topic in my opinion deserved more than a 60 second mention. I think as YouTubers increasingly have started to publish books they do need their own genre as the books seem to be written and published similarly with similar premises. I wouldn't recommend this book for readers who appreciate a longer, more in depth and formally written book. However, I do think some readers may appreciate the conversational and informal tone of the book. In my opinion I don't see what was in this book that couldn't have been said in a video, but I do think for the internet audience/fans this would be a good read.
