About this listen

Even monsters need doctors.

What do you get when you take fanciful creatures and monsters, add harem and cyberpunk elements, and toss in the adrenaline-fueled action and mystery of a movie in the vein of Bright? You get this book.

In a near future where monsters and humans coexist, Hieronymus "Jer" Bennington isn’t your run-of-the-mill psychiatrist. Despite losing his parents to a monster attack, Jer doesn’t judge people by the clothes they wear or the horns on their head. Instead, he runs a controversial clinic where he offers therapy to beastniks, but when his best friend’s suspicious death implicates him for murder, he hunts for the truth in a sexy-dangerous underworld filled with mythical creatures. As part of his journey into a place where fantasies and the stuff of dreams coexist, Jer teams with his harem of powerful monster women as he fights with his mind, a keen eye, and some really gigantic guns to unravel a conspiracy that cuts deeper than any claws or fangs and threatens already tense relations between monsters and humans.

What you need to know about the book:

Does it follow the adventures of a heroic but flawed character? Absolutely.

Does it have scenes of thrilling action set in a unique world you’ve never seen before? You know it.

Does it contain spicy scenes and monster girls? You bet it does!

Warning: This novel contains over-the-top action, undefined relationships/harem, monsters, succubae, mythic creatures, and a hero who is as tactful as a bull in a china shop. Listen at your own risk. Contains adult content. Seriously.

More serious than you might expect

The old saying of not judging a book by it's cover should be expanded to also include the books description with this one, from the cover design and the summary it seems like it is going to be quite a shallow and cheesy book, but on the whole it mostly manages to exceed those expectations to deliver a pretty decent near-future scifi story set in a world where more traditional fantasy creatures have long coexisted with humans, albeit as 2nd class (at best) citizens.

The narrator did a good job overall with this book, delivering the story clearly and ensuring that all the characters were suitably distinctive as well.

Overall, this book was not without it's flaws, but it had entertaining characters and an interesting plot to make it an enjoyable listen.

Not Bad

This is an OK story, a little confusing at first but settles down after a while.
It is a sort of monster-futuristic-noir mash-up, which is a little strange but ultimately works, if only just.
There is a harem element to this book and if that isn't your thing, then you know to avoid, but that said instances of sex are few and far between and not in depth.

The narration is above average with none of the voices sounding the same, quite easy to work out who is saying what, even before the name being said.

Overall, a good story, if a little long-winded in places with good narration.

Great!

Really enjoyed listening to this book. Premise was a bit different to anything I've listened to before, but I did enjoy this. Narrator performance was great

Wonderfully average with slight NSFW

An fairly average book, an that is not meant as a criticism. it is good at all it does, there is merely no part that is outstanding.
I enjoyed my time with this book and if you are looking for a Harem book low on the sex and high on story, this just might be the book for you.

Chris does a great job. every character has a voice that is theirs and just theirs
I enjoyed him in my earholes

Solid new Harem novel

Although new to both the author and the narrator this does well to stand out in a very populous genre of harem style novels.
The premise of a worldwide split of monsters and humans gives some interesting differences and the main character stands out well as a monster loving doctor in a world where loving them can be a crime.
An expected uncaring government and nefarious mega corp who takes advantage of this situation works surprisingly well if a little obvious.
A few of the situations stand out and this helps keep the story moving forward and fresh keeping the listeners interest.
I would carry on following this story as i think the world building and situations would be worthwhile to investigate further.
Narration suits this story quite well and Graves does well with the female voices whilst giving a clear vocal performance.
I requested this audio and have left my thoughts on this for you to peruse.

2 hours and no plot

This looked like just a bit of fun, I didn't have many expectations going in. However all I got was 2 straight hours of the most heavy handed apartheid metaphor I've ever heard. The bad guys are ridiculously evil and the main character has no reaction to his best friend dying.

And after all of that there is still no sign of an actual story. It takes a lot for me to drop a book but this is just terrible.
