About this listen
Surviving the zombie apocalypse requires supplies—like booze, weapons, and toilet paper—in the second prequel to the Mountain Man series.
Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead.
Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply. But getting his hands on any of these essentials requires the one thing he can’t face doing, and that’s leaving his modern mountain fortress and returning to Annapolis and the horrors that roam its streets in search of the living.
With winter looming, Gus must procure these much-needed supplies quickly, before the snow piles too high and blocks the roads. And that’s when he’ll face the greatest challenge of all: maintaining his sanity . . .

Loved it.
Once again Keith C Blackmore ♥ has kept me on the edge of my seat with the antics of Augustus Berry, better known to his fans as Gus.
plenty of action to retain the listeners attention, makes me want to start this amazing series again.

I really enjoyed it
I must admit the idea of going back in time after knowing the adventures of gus so well was a little bit concerning.
My main concern was that the author was trying to capitalise a bit too much on a particular character, but I was not disappointed
This one is not such a massive zombie epic, but much more on how a person deals with depression and pains of life when things are taken away. Often had me laughing, though was some of the quotes and sayings from Gus, and I really wish to ask the author where on earth he got some of those quotes from?! I would even love to have a short page oF Gus quotes and terms ! I now have a complete new vocabulary for toilet paper…
I think my question is now could I be much more to this character?

Fantastic
For me, his is the number 1 apocalypse series, this is a look at Gus before he gets tough and he's afraid of everything, can't beat brilliant writing with brilliant narration.

Ahhhh never say no to more Mountain Man!
Another great story of our beloved Gus, great to hear more of how he got through the early days , I will never get bored of listening to these books. Whilst it may not be as action packed as the other books, it still gives you insight into how he became the way he was . Thanks again Mr K.C. Blackmore and Mr R.C.Bray. Look forward to more =)

The author makes you care
The author makes you care about his lead character.
Gus is just an ordinary guy trying to survive, not an expert or a hero, just a bloke dumped into an apocalypse.

definitely worth getting as a filler for Gus
despite some dodgy reviews I love hearing about Gus and his various adventures. yes an excessive focus on the drinking but I think I'd be getting ripped as well if it were me in the same horrendous situation. someone tell me.....please....are they going to film this series of stories?! would love it. Gus and his adventures have looked after me for a long time when I need quiet time to listen in a messy noisy life. ...... oh yes R C Bray.....! you're the man. your voice is half the reason I keep listening.....

If you’ve listened to the others; then you’ll like this one.
If you have listened in the order of release as I have, from day 1, then this is another great addition.

best apocalyptic story on the market today
I love mountain Man. I only hope the prequel's and sequel's continue - as long as they're narrated by the lovely Mr B of course 😎 voice if an angel that one! ❤️

How it started
Great book, a lot slower on the threats compared to others in the series but it's great to see a younger less experienced Gus navigate the zombie apocalypse while dealing with grief and alcoholism.
