Summary

Ice on land is melting, and sea level is rising, both at astonishing rates never seen in recorded history. Are you, your property, investments, and family ready for these unprecedented changes? Read Moving to Higher Ground and…

Learn how sea levels rise (SLR) is unstoppable for many centuries, due to excess heat already stored in our oceans - and how soon our shorelines will go underwater.

Understand how disastrous SLR will profoundly affect more than 10,000 coastal communities as soon as 2050, both in the US and around the world.

What will happen where you live? How much will the water rise? And when?

Find out why extreme weather events, forest fires, and flooding share the same causes as catastrophic SLR, but weather disruptions are temporary and SLR permanent. Devastatingly so.

Discover what industries and properties will feel the greatest, and earliest, impacts. Learn what all planners and coastal property owners need to know now to urgently begin to move and adapt.

Examine the unique problems faced by the military, Infrastructure planners, architects, flood managers, policy planners, banks, insurance companies, and real estate businesses. And some unique solutions.

Find out how and why government policy makers have been completely ineffective delivering any successful strategy for climate change and sea level rise.

Answer the questions: What should we do now? And what does the path forward look like?

In time of great financial and environmental peril, who will lead us? Prepare to be surprised at the answer.

John Englander is a renowned oceanographer and expert on climate change and sea level rise. His best-selling first book, High Tide on Main Street, was published in 2012.

Fantastic! Incredibly informative. A must read!!!!

A fantastic book by John Englander!!! Very well written, very well read and very easy for everyone to understand.
John states things plain and simply and uses great examples that make things much easier to visualise. No matter how much of an understanding you currently have about sea level rise, I would strongly recommend that you read this book as sea level rise will directly affect us all in the future even if we do not live along the coastline. In this book, John not only goes over the facts about sea level rise, but also goes over the social, environmental, economical and political impacts it will have as well as much more.
It is very well read! I would highly recommend the audio book particularly, if like me, you do not like reading. Without the audio book I would not have read this book, which would have been a real shame because the information contained within is extremely important for everyone to know.
The book really opened my eyes as to how much of an issue sea level rise really is for us all. Before reading this, I did not know the severity of sea level rise this century as well as the impact that we as humans continue to have upon the planet. It is something that everyone should be aware of because of the severity of the issue.
Books like this should be shared with everyone because the information contained within is so important for everyone to know. The more people that know about this severe issue, the more ideas people will come up with in order to try to mitigate the effect it will have on us all.

A riveting listen

A really interesting story the only downside is the recording quality was very poor, with a lot of background noise during speech parts and total silence in between - it just sounded as if if the microphone was being turned on and off as the narrator spoke.

The story itself however -and the explanations given - were first class

An essential read | “Please make this your issue too”

Really superb. Moving to Higher Ground is jargon-free, and to the point. The writing is clear, the metaphors and illustrations thoughtfully presented, and the message cuts through. It’s just the right length, containing a wealth of sea-rise facts. Highly recommended. “Please make this your issue too”, stayed with me.
