About this listen

December 1940. With the Luftwaffe pounding the city nightly, Londoners seek refuge in underground stations. Aldwych has been taken out of service to provide shelter for the British Museum's priceless Elgin Marbles, as well as civilians escaping the bombing.

When the body of a young man is discovered on the tracks, wearing evening dress but barefoot, Detective Chief Inspector Coburg and Sergeant Lampson are on the case. Before long, more bodies are discovered, and Coburg's wife Rosa becomes a target for the brutal killer. Caught up in a world of underground jazz clubs, abandoned tube stations and looters, Coburg and Lampson must track down the ruthless murderer before it's too late...

Super listen…

Already a fan of Inspector Coburg certainly wasn’t let down by this one. Very enjoyable and an excellent performance.

Good Book

Nearly finished it, but I often forget or can't be bothered to review. really enjoying it. Narrator is top notch. lf I see his name I know it will be read well. story seems to have many strands. interested to see how it plays out. I actually like the main detective. who is a reluctant toff! Not come accros too much gore as mentioned by another. I don't like that either. But so far so good! I would say we'll worth a credit.

Disappointed

The basic premise of the storyline was fine. However some plot twists towards the end spoilt my enjoyment. I found them silly and unnecessary.
I couldn’t take to the narration at all. Some ropey accents for a number of characters really were too much for me.

Enjoyable, but too violent for my taste

I’ve listen to all the books in the “Museums serie” and the “Hotels serie” by this author, and I personally I prefer the latter.

This is a good mystery, quite intriguing, but compared to previous ones I found it too violent.
I imagine the underworld in London during WWII must have been full of dangers, but some of the twists in the plot were too gory for what I was used to.

The narrator is superb!
