Summary

A little music, a little dancing, a little murder at the spring ball.

England, 1925. After years shut away from the world, former detective Lord Edgington of Cranley Hall plans a grand ball to celebrate his seventy-fifth birthday.

But when someone starts bumping off members of his scheming family, the old man enlists his teenage grandson to help find the killer, before one of them is next.

The mismatched duo must pick the culprit from a gaggle of preening playboys, scatter-brained spinsters and irate inspectors in this Agatha-Christie-style whodunnit that will have you racing to spot the killer.

With a cast of eccentric suspects (both upstairs and down) and an adorable golden retriever along for the ride, Murder at the Spring Ball is a warm-hearted murder mystery full of intrigue, humour and adventure.

The Lord Edgington Investigates... audiobooks are narrated by George Blagden from the TV shows, Vikings, Versailles, and the Oscar-winning film of Les Miserables.

Good first book

Likeable characters especially Christopher and his grandfather. Plot was ok and setting excellent. Didn't guess the outcome so it was fun to discover whodunnit.

Great fun

A wonderful new series that leaves you wanting more.
I am ready for the next book. The characters are rich and varied. A good story line. Great to read on a winter's day by a cosy fire.

Easy listening

Enjoyed listening and suspected everyone except the actual murderer! Little insight into authors family quite nice at the end.

Very enjoyable

Oh how I am enjoying this Audi Book, can't wait to listen to the others. Not even halfway through and couldn't wait until the end to review it. Please keep writing more. I don't think I have heard a more perfect performance as this, brilliant narration, could have sworn I was listening to a radio play with a multitude of actors. Thank you Audible for includiing this in my library.

Funny, cosy and so well plotted - I loved it!

Funny, cosy and so well plotted - I loved this 1920s murder mystery. Great characters, with twisty backstories and secrets. But the prose is efficient and no extra fluff. If you like Agatha Christie, you'll love this.

A refreshing change

I enjoyed this book immensely. The author managed to write a historical who dunnit without being "twee". It was intriguing & amusing. I prefer mystery novels to avoid too much negative emotion or graphic violence, so this book's style suited me well. I suppose that rates it as "cosy" but it's certainly not bland. I liked the two main characters very much & the narrator brought them brilliantly to life. I look forward to listening to more books in the series.
