Summary
Zombies in North London, death cults in the West Country, the engineering deck of the Enterprise: actor, comedian, writer, and self-proclaimed supergeek Simon Pegg has been ploughing some bizarre furrows in recent times. Having blasted on to the small screen in the gut-busting and now legendary sitcom Spaced, his enduring appeal and rise to nation’s-favourite-son status has been mercurial, meteoric, megatronic, but mostly just plain great.
From his childhood (and subsequently adult) obsession with science fiction, his enduring friendship with Nick Frost, and his forays into stand-up comedy which began with his regular Monday morning slot in front of his 12-year-old classmates, Simon has always had a severe and dangerous case of the funnies.
So, sit back, relax, and let Simon Pegg and his faithful robotic butler Canterbury take you on a spectacular journey of self-discovery. (Or, take this book to school and swap it for something cooler…) Dotted with a cast of memorable characters who have helped shape the life and career of a complex, dynamic and unstoppable man, Nerd Do Well is the joyous tale of a home-grown superstar and a local boy made good.

Not a typical Autobiography
It very funny and qurkie he really set out to make it a book and an autobiography in one.Its quite a clever way of keeping
the reader intrested. one of the most intresting autobiographies I have read in a long time.

Just fantastic...
I laughed, I cried, I loved this. My first ever autobio and I wonder if any other could ever live up to it. Simon P is a gem; hilarious, witty, caring, ohhhh, gush gush, he's a genuine lovely guy and he takes you along on the amazing journey his life has taken so far with a fabby snort-fest sci-fi story sandwiched between the 'real' stuff. Finished it... started listening to it all over again. Fantabulous!

You will laugh out loud
Simon Pegg seems to enjoy narrating an autobiography that he seemed reluctant to write. I've read the book as well and oddly, the bits I enjoyed more in the audio version are the surreal episodes of Pegg and his robot butler Canterbury where as when I read the book I found them a bit of an intrusion. I suppose it's because a comic performer is less comfortable delivering the more sobering account of their own life than the made up adventures of an international crime fighting sex-god.
The sober bits are good though and original too. The unique element of this autobiography is the recurring theme of circularity where Pegg marvels in the neatness that he would grow up to work with the very people most responsible for making him the film-geek he is today.

Something good!
This is a really good listen, it's Simon Pegg comedy is obviously the driving force that sticks the back story together well, and I laughed at very regular intervals while listening. It's duel monologue was something that first caught me off guard, but does very quickly make sense and in a way works, but I think the two could ave been two separate stories expanded on, as I was really interested in his life and most of this section is kind of dotted around telling you bits here and there and can sometimes get confusing, I would have just liked more detail especially towards the end when he actually made it to being famous it felt like he was only lightly going over it, which was a shame.
The other side of the coin was a funny fantasy story and again I think in its self ould have been it's only little book.
Take nothing away form the fact this is a superlative listen! If like me you are a Simon Pegg fan I strongly recommend you take a listen.

Wonderfully different autbiography
A very well written and laugh out loud autobiography, with a slightly unusual take on how best to get across his story, which I absolutely loved. I will listen to this again and again, and recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed his work previously or is a little bit of a geek/nerd. If you can appreciate the finer things in life, i.e. Star Wars, zombie movies, superheros, superhero fantasies, 80's pop culture references and beautiful ways in which to use profanity, give this a go...

don't waste your money
this is not an autobiography.. you find very little about Simon peggs life..very lazy writing.. I don't want to hear about some stupid Sci fi story when I'm paying for an autobiography.. worst book I've purchased

enjoyable
great fun. not as in depth as the nick frost bio but the fictional story more than makes up for it.

Disappointing
What did you like best about Nerd Do Well? What did you like least?
It's Simon Pegg, and I like him, but this audio book was just a bit... dull. It's basically a list of all the thing's he's done in life without much introspection. I felt I got to know Simon more from Nick Frost's autobiography 'Truths, Half Truths and Little White Lies' which I highly recommend. With half of the book being a fiction story it feels like he didn't actually want to write an autobiography.
Was Nerd Do Well worth the listening time?
Sadly not

Funny and engaging 😸
Brilliantly read by Simon pegg, loved the Canterbury story - it broke up the real stuff so it never got cringey.
Why is it abridged though? Wish it wasn't as I haven't got the book so will never know which bits I've missed. Defo worth a credit
