About this listen

A LEGENDARY ASSASSIN.
AN IMPOSSIBLE HEIST.
THE WAY OF SHADOWS CALLS ONCE MORE.

'One of the best examples of modern fantasy that I've read' Fantasy Faction

New York Times bestselling author Brent Weeks delivers a modern masterpiece of epic fantasy.

After the war that cost him so much, Kylar Stern is broken and alone. He' s determined not to kill again. But Kylar's best - and maybe only - friend, High King Logan Gyre, needs him. To protect a fragile peace, Logan's new kingdom and his twin sons, he needs Kylar to secure a powerful magical artefact that was unearthed during the war.
Adversaries both old and new are on the hunt for this relic, but if Kylar does the job right, he won't need to kill at all. This isn't an assassination - it's a heist. But some jobs are too hard for an easy conscience, and some enemies are so powerful the only answer lies in the shadows.

A great finish to a brilliant series

Fabulous series, great story and brilliant narration! It took a moment to get into the first person style of this book, but I did and it was worth it.

Very mixed feelings

I agree with other reviewers, first person narrative does not work for me in this instance. What has made Brent Weeks change his brilliant writing style? Because we are listening to every thought and contradiction in the Night Angel’s head the story drags on too long. That being said, I did enjoy the story but I don’t really know how to rate it. You can’t blame the narrator as some have, I think Simon Vance did a great job as usual.

Where's Paul Boehmer?

let's get the bad out of rhe way 1st,
Simon Vance has,in my opinion, ruined the characters I know and love brought to life by Paul Boehmer the original narrator. Having said that the story is fantastic thank you Brent Weeks.

There is a great book in there somewhere

I enjoyed this and didn’t mind the switch in perspective but it could have lost a good 2hrs of self pity and woe. Also another 2hrs of describing how the task is impossible prior to completing the task.
I really like this series and the characters but this frustrated me somewhat and could have probably benefited from a more ruthless edit.

Great combination of voice acting and story

Loved how while I was washing up or cleaning or doing something for the kids, I was also on the rooftops or on a magical storm ship or hanging beneath a peer, very enjoyable book.

Hopefully not the end.

The most depressing, but hopefully not final chapter of Kylars journey. This was tough to get through, but not in a bad way. It's a story where everything goes wrong continously, but as any Night Angel book it was an exciting listen.

Brilliant

Absolutely loved it! I forgot how emotive the writing was, and the reader portrayed the writing beautifully.
