About this listen

I’ve never wanted a guy before.
Yet I can’t keep my mind off Dawson.
The guy is bad news and headed for the bottom of a bottle as fast as he can.
Too bad that’s a problem I can relate to.
The only woman I ever loved led me down a dark path of addiction.
I’ve been in recovery for years now. I won’t be someone’s fix.
Or their cure. I can’t be responsible for his sobriety.
If Dawson can get his act together, I could be with him.
But I’m afraid that a new chance at love will destroy me all over again.

I like to drink, but it doesn’t mean I have a problem.
Nix was supposed to be a one-night thing.
He doesn’t understand my life or my problems.
I’m in control. Always.
My construction work has me hanging around the clubhouse, so I get to see a lot of Nix.
And damn it, I want to see more.
But my demons might be stronger than I thought.
Will Nix still want me after I’ve hit bottom?

Two broken souls find their path to healing and love in Nix, a first-time gay MC romance in the Hell’s Ankhor world.

Great narration!

This is one of my favorite series and this book 9 didn't disappoint. Nix and Dawson's story is one of the most intense of the series, and I enjoyed a lot the emotional display, the way the authors managed the difficult topic of alcohol addiction and how affects family and friends and all the drama around a first time gay relationship. A very complex book, with a plot full of twists and turns and a love story that found its way regardless. In this wonderful story, the narration made by Mr Vargo was simply the cherry on top, with a very nice performance and a skillful voice acting that rounded up perfectly all the emotions and angst of the story, Wonderful!

not bad

I love this series. I was hooked from the beginning but at this point as much as i love the gang it's time to end. I'm excited for Priest and Mal to finish it off in the next book.

This story is good but I miss seeing the whole crew, I miss the drama with other crews, I miss the danger, explosions and fighting.

Nice addition

Another nice addition to the series by Aiden Bates & Ali Lyda. Dawson and Nix where interesting and great to get to know. Although the subject of addiction is discussed, it does not take anything away from the romance. David Allen Vargo did a super job with the narration. The series will keep you coming back for more.

Heartfelt Story of Redemption and Love

I found this storyline more heart wrenching than the once preceding it, but still very much the group of guys we have come to know and love.

We officially met Dawson in the previous book, but we’ve seen Nix’s name here and there several times. This is their book, their story, their chance of finding love. The only thing standing in love’s way is Dawson’s drinking and his inability to see he has a problem.

While that was a big factor in this story, there was so much more and I loved every minute of it. Seeing all of the men we’ve come to know and love is like visiting family. This club is like a family, and that family definitely includes us, readers.

David Allen Vargo wasn’t the first one who gave voice to this series, but he is the one that gave these men the biggest voice. I love what he did with this book and the depth he gave the characters through his voice.

My favourite Hell's Ankhor book so far!

I really liked Nix in the Hell’s Ankhor series, maybe my favourite so far. It was an interesting pace. I loved that it started right out in the midst of their story. I liked Nix and Dawson so much, pretty broken but getting their stuff together. I also love how the story includes everyone from the series and kind of get a bit of a check-in on them. I am definitely looking forward to the next book and recommend this one and the series.
I really liked David Allen Vargo’s voice. He has a nice pace and so enjoyable to listen to. I really liked the narration of Nix as much as reading the book. I hope to listen to more of his narrating.

Sensitive treatment of a difficult topic

I really enjoyed the audiobook for Nix, Book 9 of the Hell's Ankhor series. The authors treated the topic of alcoholism with sensitivity and grace. What I liked the most was the realistic presentation - Dawson's rationale, his family history, his excuses, the 'real' reasons, and especially the denial to others and himself. I liked that the story emphasized that it didn't mean he was weak, a failure, or a bad person. I also liked how ready Nix and the other club members were to forgive and help him, although they remained firm in their resolve not to enable him. Dawson's redemption was sweet and his reward was well-earned. Nix got his reward, too, for being a good friend and lover while protecting his own sobriety. The relationship did have other ups and downs as Nix was figuring out his sexuality, which resulted in some misunderstandings, but there is an HEA in the end.

The narration was very good and really suits the story and the emotions of the characters.

The series keeps going strong

Nine books into this series and still going strong. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one as we don’t know much about either of these characters going in. However, the story turned out to be just as strong as the prior installments. Nix and Dawson have some serious chemistry and there’s a lot of hurt/comfort here as well, which I really like when it is well done - which it is here. This is a well written story, with complex characters, a compelling story arc, and some really good romance (not the light and fluffy kind) threaded through it all.

In terms of narration, David Allen Vargo gives a solid performance. His voice fits with the tenor of the book and the series because it has a richness and depth to it that is the appropriate counterpoint to the characters and the story. He created two distinct voices and consistently delivered them. His diction is excellent and he is able to impart the right emotion behind the words. Overall, I recommend Nix and the series as a whole.

unexpectedly interested.

Hells Ankhor Book 9, best listened/read in series order due to ongoing background storyline and reoccurring characters. Nix and Dawson's story is everything I have come to expect from the series and love. Really enjoyed listening to David Allen Vargo's voice bringing the characters and their story to life.

A wonderful, emotional romance

Every time I read a new Hell's Ankhor book, I'm blown away by how deeply emotional the journey is. I've gotten to know this motorcycle club so well over the course of this series that I feel incredibly invested in the ups and downs of these men's lives. Nix and Dawson's story was particularly heart-wrenching for me because of its heavy themes of addiction. The struggles Dawson goes through in this book are upsetting at the least and downright devastating in its worst moments. These authors, combined with David Allen Vargo's emotional audio performance, painted a vivid picture of someone who appears to be okay at a quick glance but is drowning just beneath the surface. Even more than the romance with Nix, Dawson's road to recovery was captivating to read, with all the unpleasant realities of the life of an addict and an overarching sense of hope that things could and would change for the better. While I can't deny that this story is downright sad at times, Nix's steadfast belief in Dawson and slowly growing romantic relationship with him added a touch of lightness to this otherwise heavy book. The romance in this story was so much sweeter than I was expecting, and I thought it was the perfect contrast to everything else going on. Nix and Dawson didn't have many chances to explore their chemistry, but when they did come together it was every bit as intoxicating as I knew it could be. As has been the case with every book in this series, Nix and Dawson did find their way into each other's lives for good, and I've never been so blissfully happy to see them ride off into the sunset together.
