Summary

Fierce, funny and raw, this unflinchingly honest exploration of heartbreak is so much more than a book about one single break-up.

This is a love story told in reverse. It's about the best and worst of love: the euphoric and the painful. The beautiful and the messy.

Reeling from a broken heart, Annie Lord revisits the past—from the moment she first fell in love, the shared in-jokes and intertwining of a long-term relationship, to the months that saw the slow erosion of a bond five years in the making.

It is an unflinchingly honest reminder of the simultaneous joy and pain of being in love that will resonate with anyone that has ever nursed a broken heart.

Wonderful

If you have suffered heartbreak of any kind, this book will apply to you, and will give you words for many of the feelings you have experienced. On top of this it is an honest account and a story of a relationship to enjoy.
Notes on Heartbreak is a very thought provoking and meaningful listen. It is the honest, open hearted and truthful account of the ending of a deep relationship, but so much more than this as well. I feel I need to buy the hardback copy so I can retain some of Annie’s expression of feelings; for example emotional pain being like a tarantula inside you that keeps extending its legs. Above all though this is entertaining and very, very well read with excellent expression and nuance. Such a good listen.
Thank you to the author Annie Lord for such a truly good, enjoyable book.

Outstanding

This book is so fresh, and yet so wise. Scarily relatable- at least 5 different points made me sit up and reconsider my own stuff. Absolutely loved it, going to send it to all my mates. Well done Annie, really excited to read whatever you write next 👍🏻

Enlightening and Comforting

This is probably aimed at the post university demographic, as it is relates to the experience of those hard partying, career defining twenty-somethings. However, I found it surprisingly informative and emotionally intelligent. It is an excellent piece of writing, pragmatically read by the author.

Good but not exactly ground breaking

I found it a bit frustrating... heartbreak is heartbreak, not exactly ground breaking material as, unfortunately, nearly everyone has experienced it. Where there are funny moments, mostly just discussing internal revelations which are relatable but not exactly chapter worth material or inspirational.

Perfect

This is a wonderful book, I don’t really know where to start. I m we’ll over 60 , I have been married for over 42 years, yet this book still had much to offer. Thank you for opening your heart mind and soul in such a profound way. I can highly recommend.

Relatable and enjoyable to listen to

I really enjoyed this. Annie’s story really resonated with my younger self and her experiences brought back a lot of similar memories and feelings I have endured myself in similar circumstances of heartbreak and failed relationships.
I also enjoyed the metaphors and quotes that are woven into the story to give some depth and context. The emotional intelligence of the writer is obvious and I felt like I was listening to a friend speaking to me at times.
One thing I took away; it feels as though the story and the depth of detail contained within it is a way for Annie to immortalise her love with “Joe” and keep it alive in some way.

essential for anyone dealing with heartbreak

I first listened to this audiobook two months ago, just because I liked the author's writing in her column. I devoured it in 2 days because it's so beautifully and compellingly written. Last week, I got broken up with and returned to this audiobook for comfort. It's relatable, in some places brutally honest, and has been a real source of comfort to me. Would recommend to anyone going through it.
