Summary

She can't prove he did it. But she might die trying....

From the Sunday Times number one best-selling author of the Logan McRae series comes a stand-alone spin-off featuring DS Roberta Steel.

Revenge is a dangerous thing....

Detective Chief Inspector Roberta Steel got caught fitting up Jack Wallace - that's why they demoted her and quashed his sentence. Now he's back on the streets, and women are being attacked again. Wallace has to be responsible, but if Detective Sergeant Steel goes anywhere near him, his lawyers will get her thrown off the force for good.

The Powers That Be won't listen to her, not after what happened last time. According to them, she's got more than enough ongoing cases to keep her busy. Perhaps she could try solving a few instead of harassing an innocent man?

Steel knows Wallace is guilty. And the longer he gets away with it, the more women will suffer. The question is: how much is she willing to sacrifice to stop him?

Another fabulous crime novel by Stuart McBride

It's great to get an insight into Steele's mindset. Stuart McBride delivers, yet again, on a gritty Scottish crime novel, with liberal dustings of humour that bring the characters to life and leave you wanting more.

Brilliant!

Loved this book, laugh out loud moments, as expected with Steel. Very disappointed when it ended.

brilliant!

I love the Logan books and this is no disappointment either. focusing on the demoted Roberta Steel this story keeps you entertained throughout. I always loved Steel in the Logan books and getting to find out more about her has been ace. Steel and Tuffty make a great team and I really hope there's more to come.

Tufty and Steele make a good team!

I wasn't sure I would like a 'Steele on her own' story - she's a great foil for Logan, but I wondered if she was too extreme on her own. However, I liked this story just fine - you still get the Steele-ness, but Tufty made quite a good straight man for her. Lots of familiar places in Aberdeen to love, fabulous dialogue as ever - and Steve Worsley's performance is excellent also as always. I always promise myself I am going to remember the best quotes from MacBride's novels, and never do. But there are the usual laugh out loud moments, complete joy!!

A dark, gripping and witty tale

Stuart MacBride gives us a real treat with this book, a compelling listen from the very first to the last, performed brilliantly by Steve Worsley. Hilariously funny banter between the characters provides a narrative that underpins a cracking storyline, of frustration and dogged perseverance, whilst managing to both repulse and move the listener at the same time. This has to be one of the stand out books in the last year or so for me.
