Summary
Nora Roberts, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the epic Year One returns with Of Blood and Bone, a new tale of terror and magic in a brand new world.
They look like an everyday family living an ordinary life. But beyond the edges of this peaceful farm, unimaginable forces of light and dark have been unleashed.
Fallon Swift, approaching her thirteenth birthday, barely knows the world that existed before - the city where her parents lived, now in ruins and reclaimed by nature since the Doom sickened and killed billions. Traveling anywhere is a danger, as vicious gangs of Raiders and fanatics called Purity Warriors search for their next victim. Those like Fallon, in possession of gifts, are hunted - and the time is coming when her true nature, her identity as The One, can no longer be hidden.
In a mysterious shelter in the forest, her training is about to begin under the guidance of Mallick, whose skills have been honed over centuries. She will learn the old ways of healing; study and spar; encounter faeries and elves and shifters; and find powers within herself she never imagined. And when the time is right, she will take up the sword, and fight. For until she grows into the woman she was born to be, the world outside will never be whole again.

Enjoyable, but
That is a terrible Welsh accent. I couldn’t work out which part of the country he was supposed to be from. Perhaps somewhere in middle of the Irish Sea or the Scottish borders? Certainly not mainland Wales! The narration was good apart from that.

Book 2 of Chronicles of the One trilogy
This is the second book (of three) in the story of Fallon Swift, in which she undertakes her training to become The One and begins to move against the Dark.
I thoroughly enjoyed it: Nora Roberts is a fantastic storyteller, so creative and imaginative. I love how she develops the characters, even minor ones, so you feel strongly about them. She is especially good at portraying male characters. I was totally gripped by this story. Julia Whelan narrates it really well too. It'll be a long wait until November when the final book is published!

Great read
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
Of Blood and Bone is book 2 in Nora Roberts’ Chronicles of One series. We pick up almost 13 years after the end of book 1 (Year One). Fallon Swift “The One” is swiftly approaching her 13th birthday and the beginning of the next chapter in her journey to save the world. Fallon’s journey will take her back to the town of New Hope that her mother and birth father helped found. The people of New Hope will play a very important role in Fallon’s journey.
Of Blood and Bone was a great second book in the series. The story is a little slow because the is a lot that Fallon has to learn in two short years. There is a lot of build up to what may happen in the final book of this trilogy. I am very much looking forward to seeing what is next.
Again Julia Whelan did an amazing job narrating this story. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I will also be looking for more books narrated by Julia.
If you have not started this series yet, I would highly suggest it! But you must read in order!!!!

Good but....
So overall I enjoyed the book and seeing what became of the characters from Year One; however, it still fell a bit short for me. I thought Year One was phenomenal and so different from the Nora Roberts usual form of writing, the world, the characters, everything was just so intriguing and had me zoned in front start to finish. This book fell back into old hat, which is ok because I am a fan, but I was expecting a lot more. Hopefully the next installment will rekindle the magic of the first book.

Dissapointing
Found the second book in the series to be boring. There was never a reason to really care for any of the characters. This is the problem with creating overpowered characters. This is basically a 14 hour retelling of King Arthur and Merlin. Save time and watch 20 minutes of Excalibur. Merlin takes child. Merlin tutors child. Merlin returns child.

Beautifully Emotional
Of Blood and Bone is a beautiful addition to Nora Roberts Chronicles of the One series. Julia Whelan was a new narrator to me with the first book and I have found I really like her narration. She does a beautiful job inflicting the emotions of the characters and I hope she does the next one as well.
This book in the series was brilliant. I felt what the characters felt. I learned what the characters learned. The magics and paranormal aspects were not over done as in some books written in this genre. Nora is brilliant in this aspect and I have totally missed reading/listening to her work. I simply LOVED this book and cannot believe we have to wait another full year for more but will be waiting (im)patiently!

Disappointing
After eagerly awaiting for over a year
for this book to be released, I just finished it & am so disappointed.
I don’t listen to/read a whole lot of sci-fi/fantasy, but I took a chance on the 1st book in this series, (Year One) & I loved it.
I already returned this one.
To me, this was a very boring YA fantasy...& I don’t like YA at all. The last book was from many different (adult) perspectives, & the story lines were interesting, scary, sad, & I definitely rooted for the good guys. This one is almost all from a teenaged girl’s perspective, which some people may like, I didn’t.
Feels very YA, & YA always comes of super cheesy/cringey to me.
The whole thing with her being “The One” irritated me. They never really explain ‘why’ she’s the chosen “One”, we’re just supposed to accept it, & move on...but I just couldn’t. Other than a few furry side-kicks she acquires along the way, she didn’t seem much different than all the other people with “magicks”.
We’ve been told she was gonna be “The One” since the last book before she was even born...she’s been told her whole life that she’s this super-special savior of the world...anyone around her with magicks can ‘feel’ her specialness...but I just couldn’t. Her self-assuredness came across as undeserved/unearned & cocky.
Overall, this one just didn’t have the same emotion, or the terrified apocalyptic feel the last book did.
It barely kept my attention. I had to rewind multiple times when my mind would wander off. Nothing much happens until the very, very end. Even then, it was only 5-10 minutes of the book & not that exciting anyway. Disappointing.

Not my favorite!
This really isn't my favorite series for several reasons. I liked that this series is a little different from what I am used to from Nora but I found that the story doesn't have enough conflict. The main character starts her growth process at the young age of 13 and from go she gets everything right...knows everything... and she rarely sounds 13 or pubescent. It's just too clean and tidy for me and not enough grit and struggle. The latter is something you'd expect more of because she's coming into herself and she's bigger than herself... but she always says and does the right things. I think I would feel better about the perfection of her character if she was older... but even still... there is a certain level of grit required for growth and struggle and this book is absent of those things and that is not an exaggeration.

Better than expected
Granted, there was some teenaged angst in this, overall this book was surprisingly good. I give it 5 stars. I am unsure why so many reviewers complain about the narrator. I have never heard a book narrated by Julia Whelan that wasn't well-done. I thought she did a great job with the characters. I eagerly look forward to what I guess is the final book. The twist at the end was very well done and totally unexpected, at least by me!! Another winner by Nora Roberts.

Everybody is so perfect.
I enjoyed the first book "Year One" because it was a bit edgy with the Doom and people really struggling to survive. In comparison, this book is rather boring. All the major characters in the book are perfect, always say the perfect thing and do the perfect thing. There is no real struggle, no failure to overcome, no internal conflict, no fear, anxiety, anger in the major characters. They win every battle, succeed in every mission. As such, the characters are not relatable, they are not human, just two dimensional paper constructs. Granted, this book might be aimed at a slightly younger audience, but teens have more sophistication than this book demands. If I have to hear one more phrase to the effect of "of the light, from the light, etc." I might gag. Sorry for any negativity, I was simply expecting more.
