Every idea and fleeting notion that crosses through your mind has an impact. Every time you tell yourself you can’t, you reinforce that belief. When you assign yourself the victim role, you live it. If you let the past remain in the present, you’ll doom your future. All of this is only possible when you hold onto toxic thoughts and ideas. Learn to release them, and you’ll create an entirely new mental landscape that is dedicated to helping you thrive.
Summary
Are you your own biggest critic? Do you tend to be hard on yourself, impatient with your setbacks, and quick to judge yourself? Perhaps, you appear self-assured on the outside, but inside you often feel inferior, doubtful, and question yourself.
After writing the runaway best seller Not Nice, Dr. Aziz returns to tackle the biggest killer of confidence: your own inner critic. That voice in your head tells you that you can’t achieve what you want or be loved for who you are, because you’re not enough. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize just how much that negative voice is running their lives, creating stress, anxiety, perfectionism, relentless business, and overwhelm.
Through his work with thousands of people in live events, group programs, and online, Dr. Aziz systematically uncovered the most effective approach to rapidly end self-criticism and doubt and replace it with permanent self-worth and confidence.
In this refreshingly honest and moving book, Dr. Aziz gives you specific guidance, powerful exercises, and clear strategies to regain control inside your own mind, so you can live with more freedom, self-expression, trust, and confidence in yourself, than ever before!
You’ll also discover how to:
- Put an end to constant comparison, self-judgment, and internal criticism
- Skyrocket your sense of value, self-worth, and inner confidence
- Stop doubting yourself and start living with bold self-trust
- Eliminate your fear of failure, mistakes, and the disapproval of others
- Truly like yourself and enjoy living your life

Thank you for this incredible work, Aziz.
I've listened to all of Aziz' books so far, and I'm impressed with how they just get better and better. As with his previous work, this book is superbly narrated, in a natural, sincere, heartfelt way, and with good humour. I believe this book, even more so than his others, really speaks direct to the heart. The message of OMOS is simple but profound: you no longer need to live under the harsh rule of your inner critic, who you will never satisfy. Instead, you can consciously choose to be on your own side, starting right now. You can have your own back and love yourself unconditionally, no matter what.
He jokes about how a negative review can sometimes trigger his own inner critic- well, I don't know if you will ever see this Aziz, but if you do, I just want to say- thank you. You are helping me to live a more authentic life, a life full of love. You are helping me to overcome years of negative conditioning. You are helping me to be on my own side.

Great message :)
Great message. The only reason really that I gave 4 stars (instead of 5) is that I have many of his other books and this one didn't quite keep me engaged as the ones I have read previously. The author/narrator is fantastic, very relatable and I would definitely recommend if you have a hard time being compassionate towards yourself. There is also an interesting parenting section at the end of the book that gave me a fresh perspective on my approach to parenting.

What an amazing book. Doc Aziz lays out an incredible path for the listener to follow, somewhere between the Radical Self-Acceptance of Tara Brach and the drive and power of Anthony Robbins. It's an inspirational journey towards the deepest kind of self-acceptance that has left a powerful and permanent impression on me. Not only that, he does it with such seeming ease, joy, encouragement and authenticity. The best audiobook I have purchased.

On my own side - a great listen
I've followed Dr Aziz for about a year now and his strength is his ability to be almost completely transparent about his own struggles and victories. He practices what he teaches, yet like us all can still fall for ego led traps and become lured by the ghosts of the past. The audio flew by and is something I will revisit many more times.

It could be shorter
I’d appreciate if his books were shorter but instead they are filled with bunch of unnecessary stories or other nonsense. It’s just total time waste, especially when he’s well aware that people do not finish self-help books. There are other books explaining the same things in 2 hours but his book takes 16 hours to explain simple things. He's doing this on purpose to prepare you for his other courses. Simple marketing trick.

It’s good
It is a good book. I recommend it. I like the author’s stories about his growth experiences and about his family life. He has a lot to offer.
I liked "Not Nice" so much that I also bought the ebook and wanted to see what "On My Own Side" would contribute. I got in to It and also bought the ebook. It is a solid but not inspired follow up to the previous volume. I hope the author continues to write and publish in the future. I want to see where he goes with his work.
I think the author is at the beginning of a great career as a writer. "Not Nice" is at the beginning end of inspired. On My Own Side is solid and continues and contributes to the discussion but it didn't knock my socks off like the previous book did. If the author continues to work at it and continues to develop his skills I think he will really fly high and these already very good books will be his apprentice pieces. With a lot of work he could become a William James or produce work with the status of H.D. Thoreau.
Like with Not Nice, it sounds like an extended podcast to me. The personality of the author/presenter is engaging and lively.
