Summary

Hal's parents refuse to consider a dog. Then they discover Easy Pets, a dog-rental agency. Terrier Fleck arrives on Hal's birthday, but when Hal discovers that his dog must be returned, he runs away. A large reward is offered for the missing boy, and soon they are being chased across the country. Helped by a travelling circus and sympathetic children from an orphanage, they race for their freedom.

Boys Determination - brings Adventures

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would have no hesitation in recommending this book, to all children who love animals, and also to parents, to understand how desperate children can become at not having a pet.

What did you like best about this story?

The adventure side of it, you never guessed what would happen next. it was exciting from start to finish.

What about Steven Crossley’s performance did you like?

I had never heard of Steven Crossley - but he told the story really well. I never lost interest -
finding the right narrator is so important in children's books, and I would be pleased to hear him again.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were times when my heart was pumping fast, wondering if he was going to get to his Grandparents home safely. I could also feel the sadness and anxiety he felt on the journey, I was sure the police were going to ruin his expedition but they didn't.
there were also times when you could have a good laugh too.

Any additional comments?

The author is so good at describing things, I could almost see the scenery in the story. Be lovely to see a film made of the book.

Beautiful!!!

What an amazing adventure! The book kept our family truly entertained and switched on until the very end. We laughed, we cried, we sighted in relief… absolutely beautifully written book. My boys, ages 8 and 10, gave our dogs extra cuddles throughout the reading and even started helping with the dogs!

A lovely story for 8 to 12 year olds.

I listened to this book as I am responsible for the Library in a junior school and I don't have time to read all the longer books. it is well written , with a heart warming plot and satisfying, but not totally predicable, ending. I will certainly be recommending it to the 'free readers' in our school. The narration, by Stephen Crossly, reminded me of Stephen Fry ..... high praise indeed, I feel!!

good listen

Listened to this in one sitting on a long train journey... All in all a good fun story and an easy listen, not my usual choice but I enjoyed it! Would recommend it to anyone looking for something that requires little effort, but gives maximum pleasure.

This audio book would rank highly among the many audio books that I listen to with my children.

Any additional comments?

We all enjoyed listening to the book, as a family of parents and children aged 5,4,2. All of the children listened with great interest and we were entertained too,
