Summary

After single-handedly intervening in a deadly terrorist attack in Mali, SAS Warrant Officer Jamie 'Geordie' Carter is denounced as a lone wolf by jealous superiors.

Now a Regiment outcast, Carter is given a second chance with a deniable mission: locate SAS hero-gone-rogue David Vann.

Vann had been sent into Afghanistan to train local rebels to fight the Taliban. But he's since gone silent, and expected attacks on key targets have not happened.

Tracking Vann through Afghanistan and Tajikistan, Carter not only discovers the rogue soldier's involvement in a conspiracy that stretches far beyond the Middle East—but an imminent attack that will have deadly consequences the world over....

Many twist’s and turns.

Chris Ryan does it again. A story full of twist’s and turns. Totally plausible as it seems anything can happen these days.
Top marks to the narrator Simon Darwenn. Vann has a good old Ulster prod belfast accent, usually voices are more slanted towards southern Irish, so a refreshing change and spot on.
Looking forward to see where the story goes from here.

Interesting and gripping storyline

Once started, it was very difficult to stop listening.
Also it was well read with good character accents.

A good story

Quite short though and quite easy to guess what was coming next as I went along.

Corney

I don't know what has happened to Chris Ryan, I used to love his books but this one and the last one have been terrible. It's as if the plot has been written for American teenagers where everything has to be spelled out. The narration was terrible. Its a case of the goose and the golden egg - he is living on his past success as an author and can't be bothered to research and plan the plot properly or write enough text so its a decent length - I got half way through and nothing much had happened, it was boring and so sent the book back. If you want a great book written by an ex SAS guy then the best is James Deegan but sadly he's only written two of the John Carr books which are top draw.

Good, but not great

I did struggle and kept losing interest in this one, I'm a lover of Chris Ryan books but this one fell short.
the Geordie character came across weak, with not much between his ears.

Urrrmmm…

Not really sure what to think about this one. Certainly not his best work, a lot of fluff at the start , quite a weak story and should of been a short story. If someone told me Chris hadn’t it would be believable.

Out Outcast

A story that gets one hot under the collar due power games, cover ups & outright betrayal. The author definitely captures the the story’s essence in the well developed main character’s behavior. Superbly crafted & totally engaging.
