The Inimitable Jeeves
A classic collection of 11 stories featuring some of the funniest episodes in the life of Bertie Wooster, gentleman, and Jeeves, his gentleman's gentleman - in which Bertie's terrifying Aunt Agatha appears, seeking whom she may devour, while Bertie's friend Bingo Little falls in love with seven different girls in succession (including the best-selling romantic novelist Rosie M. Banks). And Bertie, with Jeeves's help, hopes to evade the clutches of the terrifying Honoria Glossop.
Carry On Jeeves
10 more marvellous stories introduce us to Jeeves, whose first ever duty is to cure Bertie's raging hangover ('If you would drink this, sir...it is a little preparation of my own invention. It is the Worcester Sauce that gives it its colour. The raw egg makes it nutritious. The red pepper gives it its bite. Gentlemen have told me they have found it extremely invigorating after a late evening.')
Right-Ho Jeeves
The second full-length novel featuring Jeeves and Bertie Wooster, after Thank You, Jeeves. The story is mostly set at Brinkley Court, the home of Bertie's Aunt Dahlia, and introduces the recurring characters Gussie Fink-Nottle and Madeline Bassett. Bertie's friend Tuppy Glossop and cousin Angela Travers also feature in the novel, as does Brinkley Court's prized chef, Anatole.
The Code of the Woosters
The third full-length novel to feature Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves. It introduces Sir Watkyn Bassett, the owner of a country house called Totleigh Towers, where the story takes place, and his intimidating friend Roderick Spode. It is also a sequel to Right Ho, Jeeves, continuing the story of Bertie's newt-fancying friend Gussie Fink-Nottle and Gussie's droopy and overly sentimental fiancée, Madeline Bassett.
Joy in the Morning
Bertie is persuaded to brave the home of his fearsome Aunt Agatha and her husband Lord Worplesdon, knowing that his former fiancée, the beautiful and formidably intellectual Lady Florence Craye will also be in attendance.
Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry is an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter, film director and all-round national treasure. Whilst at university, Fry became involved with the Cambridge Footlights, where he met his long-time collaborator and friend Hugh Laurie. As half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster. Fry’s acting roles include Blackadder, Kingdom, Bones, V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and The Hobbit trilogy. He has written and presented several documentary series and as a proudly out gay man, the award-winning Out There, documenting the lives of lesbian, bisexual gay and transgender people around the world is part of his 30-year advocacy of the rights of the LGBT community. Fry has written four novels: The Liar, The Hippopotamus (made in to a feature film in 2018), Making History and The Stars’ Tennis Balls. Translated into many languages, they have never been out of print. The most recently published works are Mythos, Heroes and Troy, a trilogy retelling the Greeks myths from the Creation to the aftermath of the Trojan War.

Superb in every way
What a set! Some of Wodehouse's finest Jeeves stories read by their ideal narrator. If you have any hesitation about Stephen Fry (famed for his on-screen Jeeves) narrating as Bertie Wooster, don't. Fry's characterisation of Bertie is pitch-perfect, as one might expect from such a well-know Wodehousian. Interestingly, it is closer to the wonderful screen performance of Ian Carmichael than to that of Hugh Laurie. My advice is to space the books out rather than binge-listening, as Wodehouse needs some space to breathe. Here's hoping that Mr Fry will record another set of Jeeves stories in the future!

Perfectly delivered
Stephen Fry’s performance epitomises his talent. The warmth an humour of his narrative is the best I have ever heard and I have listened to most. Thank you Stephen. Now what about the rest of the portfolio?

Perfect narration for classic Wodehouse
There are some reviewers who think that Stephen Fry doesn’t narrate Bertie Wooster well. I disagree. If this was a dramatisation then Stephen Fry would be miscast, but it isn’t, it’s a narration. I can only think the success of Fry and Laurie’s Jeeves and Wooster has influenced opinion. Stephen Fry knows Wodehouse inside out, and appreciates the skill of his writing. Wodehouse influences modern comedy writing even now, and I can’t think of a more qualified person to let rip with 40 hours of this fantastic material.
For my quid’s worth, I also challenge those reviews that label Wodehouse a Nazi and a racist. Those reviews are ill informed and would benefit from a bit more research. There were plenty of members of the English establishment who were desperate to collaborate with the Nazis, but Wodehouse was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was held against his will. Fortunately he’s been given a reprieve in recent years, which apparently isn’t widely known.
Some of the vocabulary Wodehouse uses is racist. Certainly that was picked up by my children, and in 2021 that language definitely jars. This doesn’t mean that Wodehouse was racist, it means that the vocabulary at the time included racist elements. People didn’t know any better, and if you pick up anything written by Wodehouse’s contemporaries you’d find equally uncomfortable phrases. As you would reading Shakespeare or Chaucer. I don’t think you can either sanitise the text or cast it into the pit.
Ultimately, Stephen Fry’s reading of Wodehouse’s most lyrical comedy is superb. Can’t wait for volume 2.

Hilarious
This was such a good listen, really ridiculous, which is what one needs during a pandemic! Stephen Fry is brilliant and the writing even more so. I really want to bring "pip pip" back as a greeting!

Next Best After Jonathan Cecil!
Simon Callow did some great recordings of the abridged Jeeves stories, but for the unabridged versions, for me anyway, no-one beats Jonathan Cecil. However, given that there are some stories he did not record, and that the audio quality is pretty poor on some of the recordings he did do (not his fault, of course), and having tried several other narrators, I reckon Stephen Fry is the next best thing.
If, like me, you have watched the Jeeves and Wooster TV series with Fry and Laurie in the title roles, then you may struggle a bit hearing the whole story told in what seems pretty close to being Jeeves' voice but don't let that put you off, this is a really nice performance and after about an hour or so I had gotten used to Fry as Wooster (and, of course, his Jeeves voice from that TV series is great to hear again!)
He has a good range for the other characters as well; I thought his Gussie Fink-Nottle was spot on and the grumpy old man voice for Sir Watkin Basset or Lord Worplesdon is also pretty good.
I hope he records some more - Much Obliged Jeeves is one in particular that really needs a good narration (the one by Dinsdale Landen just doesn't work at all for me.)
So here's looking forward to volume 2!

I've waited years for Stephen fry to read Jeeves. The videos are timeless genius with Hugh Laurie, and why their audio version wasn't created earlier is most confusing. Stephen brings back the finesse of Jeeves on TV to the audio gadget of your choice. So whilst making marmalade or ironing, or on a long commute, Jeeves can transport you into the blissful unrealistic world of Bertie Wooster. The only thing missing is Hugh Laurie himself, as generally audiobooks are read by one voice. But here two might be possible? Either way it's genius. Can't get it quick enough.
