Summary

This collection of recordings about Brother Cadfael—a Benedictine monk and amateur sleuth in the 12th century—are performed here by the ideal actor. Sir Derek Jacobi, who portrayed Cadfael in several television adaptations, captivates listeners with his renderings of Monk's Hood, Saint Peter's Fair, The Heretic's Apprentice, The Potter's Field, The Summer of the Danes, and Brother Cadfael's Penance.

Very entertaining

Easy to listen to, Derek Jacobi performs each story wonderfully.
Somehow gentle, the tales are still clever and engaging, the characters interwoven with historical events so they all become real and believable.
No downside, enjoyed it all the way through.

Good stories but sound quality a bit iffy

As always I enjoyed the Cadfael stories but the recording has some background noise. A shame.

Excellent

Fabulous performance by Sir Derek Jacobi, but I wish that someone had spent some time checking and coaching in the pronunciation of the many Welsh words and place names - to a native Welsh speaker it was painful, but detracted only slightly from the pleasure of listening to Sir Derek.

For those who remember the TV adaptations.

I wish these had been recorded unabridged... but Jacobi's voice remains perfect for the character and reading.

Brother Cadfael

I enjoyed these stories, well adapted from the books. They were slightly spoiled for me by a lot of mispronunciation, especially of Welsh words. Cadfael was Welsh!

Lovely nostalgia trip

Highly enjoyable and well read by Derek Jacobi. Sound was very occasionally dodgy and dropped out or 'blipped'.

Pure class

Pure class all the way!
Brilliantly conceived stories, wonderfully written and with great care taken with regard to historical accuracy, told by a true master of the spoken word.

Really good

The only downside for me is the American introducer and one of the stories "The Summer of Danes", which really didn't feel like a Brother Cadfael. Other than that, this was really enjoyable.

A Marvelous Reading br Sir Derek Jacoby

Simply put, there is no better choice for listening to Brother Cadfael stories. It's a pity all 20 adventures weren't included
