Summary

I just can't imagine me without you....

It's the mid-1990s, and 15-year-old Guernsey schoolgirls Renée and Flo are not really meant to be friends.

Thoughtful, introspective and studious Flo couldn't be more different to ambitious, extroverted and sexually curious Renée. But Renée and Flo are united by loneliness and their dysfunctional families, and an intense bond is formed.

Although there are obstacles to their friendship (namely Flo's jealous ex-best friend and Renée's growing infatuation with Flo's brother), 15 is an age where anything can happen, where life stretches out before you and when every betrayal feels like the end of the world.

For Renée and Flo it is the time of their lives.

It was ok

I read the book “so lucky” and loved it so much that I wanted to try this one. The narrator’s voice wasn’t distinctive enough between characters. Story dragged a little. Will try the next book in the series though

A Must Read

Ive cried a number of times reading this. Just brilliant. Her use of language is fantastic and felt great emotion for these characters.

I have told everyone to read it. I couldnt put it down!

The book does contain swearing and sex, but it is context of the story

Truthfully awkward & moving account of being a teenage girl

I’m a big fan of Dawn OPorter, and this book feels slightly different to her others.
However, once I got used to the change in tone, driven mainly by it being set in the eighties, but current day, I throughly enjoyed it.
It is a very raw, touching & truthful account of what it was like to be a teenage girl in that era, than I think all 30 - 50 women will relate to
