Summary
Lawyer Robert Tarza is surprised when his young, beautiful and wealthy French girlfriend, Tess, proposes marriage. It's not that he doesn't love her, but even after five years, there's a lot about her he doesn't know.
But Robert has to put his personal life on hold when his friend Oscar Quesana shows up outside Tess's Parisian apartment clutching a mysterious package, with a thief hot on his heels. Oscar has somehow acquired a priceless old book.
When Robert and his former protégée, Jenna James, see Oscar shoved into a car and abducted, they find themselves entangled in unexpected intrigue. Robert, Tess and Jenna must quickly determine who is friend and who is foe in order to rescue Oscar before it's too late. Simple, Complicated and Longwinded!
Simple, Complicated and Longwinded! This book is all of this! I felt that the story could have been told in a far less complicated and circuitous way, and therefore been far more interesting.
I like that it was divided into 3 narratives and all of the narrators did a great job. But I would have been happier if the story was resolved with the entry of the Judge. I shall not pursue any other titles by this author, because quite frankly, I don't enjoy his style of telling a tale!

Awful plot, even worse acting
To say that the plot of this book is ponderous would be a gross understatement. If you find arrogant Americans to be sympathetic central characters you may enjoy this but I found their attempts at sleuthing pathetic and their unshakable belief in their superiority as Americans to be tedious in the extreme.
The labyrinthine and ludicrous plot was made even worse by the awful acting, the attempts to do “French Accents” by the actors was unprofessionally bad and the lake of attention to detail cringeworthy. Senior figures in France generally speak British English not American and do not sound like extras in the 1980s comedy “ Allo Allo”.
