Summary

Jackie loves her family. Sure, her teenage children can be stroppy. Her husband a little lazy. And providing round-the-clock care for her Alzheimer's-ridden mother is exhausting. All Jackie wants is for her children to have brighter futures than she did. So long as Martha, the eldest, gets into university and follows her dreams, all her sacrifice will be worth something...won't it?

GRIPPED FROM START TO FINISH

What did you like most about Perfect Daughter?

Brilliant story about an ordinary family that I think everyone can relate to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved them all, little Jonty was hilarious! But Pete comes across as lovely. Jacks is fab and her friend Gina funny, can't choose one...

Which character – as performed by Amanda Prowse – was your favourite?

Jacks. She sounded warm and lovely. I took every step with her.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Every woman's story...

Any additional comments?

Thoroughly enjoyed this, can't recommend highly enough. You hear it said, but I really did laugh and cry. Prowse is a natural story teller. Brilliant, just brilliant.

*Dream*

This is a tale about Jacks, she had dreams and wanted to travel with the man of her dreams. She romanticised it all in her head and life did not turn out as she would have hoped for.

In reality she had two children who she is living the life that she wants through them. How will that work out?

The man she married was a lad from school who she saw as a mate, why? Life is not working out how she wanted. With her beloved father now passed on she is left with caring for her cold mum who has dementia, she was never warm towards Jacks and treated her Dad harshly, why?

The story flips & flops between the past & present and in time we get to see the reasons behind Jacks resentments and disappointments when a blast from the past appears and she is in a dilemma when history looks like it is about to repeat itself and Jacks feels like her husband has no ambition and seems to be happy with life with their crappy life and house etc the list is endless. She is juggling everything and the bitterness she feels almost swallows her whole.

This blast from the past means that there may be a glimmer of a new life.

Which path will she take? Will she open her eyes and see what is right in front of her?…..

The ending although I enjoyed it jumps five years ahead in the future and so much was crammed in…. But overall a great read with emotions all over the place.

Lovely gentle story

Interesting characters who I came to care about. Rather predictable storyline, but very enjoyable anyway.

Gem of a story

This isn't my usual genre of book but I loved it. The reality of juggling family life on a shoestring while caring for a confused elderly mother was dealt with in a loving & sensitive way. A story of real life shattering dreams.
One of my favourite narrators, perhaps because she is the author, she did a fabulous job!

Predictable

Would you try another book written by Amanda Prowse or narrated by Amanda Prowse?

The narration by Amanda Prowse was excellent but I am unlikely to try another book by the same author - the story was too predictable and the characters too extreme, and not really believable.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The basic stroy was OK but there was no subtlety in the way it was written; the dialogue was clunky and the characters' actions and reactions were overplayed

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I thought Amanda Prowse did a good job

Was Perfect Daughter worth the listening time?

It was just about worth it, but I couldn't recommend it as anything other than a beach read.
