Dave Mearns is professor of counselling and retired Director of the Counselling Unit of the University of Strathclyde. He has written seven books including Working at Relational Depth in Counselling and Psychotherapy (with Mick Cooper) and is co-editor of the international journal, Person-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapies.
Brian Thorne is Emeritus Professor of Counselling at the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he was previously director of counselling and of the Centre for Counselling Studies. He is also a co-founder of the Norwich Centre and continues to work there as a professional fellow.
John McLeod is emeritus professor of counselling at the University of Abertay Dundee and adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Oslo, Norway.

Almost perfect
It was a really good reading of the book, kept it informative and interesting. The only thing that bothered near the end was how the reader mispronounced the word 'quantitative' as "quantative".

A must for beginners!
I really enjoyed the verbatim between clients and counsellors.
I appreciate the comments of problems facing counselling and the importance of research . Two things that hadn’t crossed my mind.

Becoming a PC counsellor? Buy this!
If you’re person centred - you need to read this. Fundamental text. I learnt more in this Than i did in in my first year module on person centred theory. Buy it!

Excellent and practical overview
This book makes you want to become a person-centered counselor. It makes a strong case for it and explains in detail and with many examples how to use the approach. It is also an honest book, i.e. the authors don't shy away from giving their opinions on topics that may be controversial in some environments.
The only unpleasant thing about this recording is the verbal mentioning of all references within a sentence or at the end of a sentence. This makes it hard to listen to it. The reading style is also a bit staid. However the excellent content overrides the style issues.

Very hard to grasp the message
The narrative is very uninspiring and the teachings of the counselling is rather technical and something that I am not really interested in learning especially with the monotone voice of the speaker.

The narrator is good but the decision to have him read all of the references holts the flow of the book.

It can go over your head.
It's good but they could make the book more easier to understand and explain things better.
It seems like a typical lecturer at university who likes to use words that are not always typically used in everyday life. People will have to listen again to try and understand what the writer is talking about or you will find yourself going into a trance, drifting off as you will get lost.

Racist?
The chapter on research includes the following quote, ‘There is no need for more reseach into the process of outcomes of person centred counselling for members of non western ethnic and religious groups.’ Why? There is currently no in depth in research in this area. Was this a recording error? It’s a pretty big one if so.
