Summary

Prince was an icon. A man who defined an era of music and changed the shape of popular culture forever. There is no doubt that he was one of the most talented and influential artists of all time - and one of the most mysterious.

On 21 April 2016, the world lost its Prince; it was the day the music died. This audiobook will open a door to Prince's world like never before. From his traumatic childhood and demonic pursuit of music as a means of escape to his rise to superstardom, professional rivalries and marriages shrouded in tragedy, internationally best-selling music writer Mick Wall explores the historical, cultural and personal backdrop that gave rise to an artist the likes of which the world has never seen - and never will again.

Mick, a lifelong Prince fan, was one of the first UK journalists to ever write about this enigmatic star, and it was his story that put Prince on the cover of Kerrang magazine in 1984 and inspired the biggest mailbag of letters the magazine has ever had. As Prince sang in '7', 'no one in the whole universe will ever compare', and this audiobook is a shining tribute to the forever incomparable Prince.

Don't do accents!

Not the most comprehensive book on Prince! It did feel a little rushed together to get out as quick as possible after the great mans death, however I did enjoy it especially going through the album discography, BUT why oh why did the narrator feel it nessessary to try and mimic people's voices when relaying what they said!
He made Prince sound like Hannibal Lector & the Irish accent of Sinead O'Connor was abysmal, same when trying to do other accents of other people! There really was no need of it, just read it, it ruined the narration for me completely!

silly voices

not a bad listen but the silly voices and impersonations are off putting, shame would of roated it higher if he had just narrated it in his normal voice.

Prince

Having just finished this book on my favourite musical hero, Prince. The book tries to educate the new fan of his musical genius and beginnings and also bring to light unknown information about him. The book does go some way to navigate through a complicated person and career. I do feel at times that some areas of his career a rushed in order to get to the end of the book. In some cases this book lacked depth while showing and using an array of sources from all walks of life having a say on Princes career and legacy. I s a fan enjoyed the book and various soundbites. But tries hard to give a A retrospective review of an amazing career. I do hope readers will find themselves wanting to know more listening more to the 39 studio albums available and enjoy the amazing legacy of this amazing musician as left behind.

So much more learnt

I really enjoyed this Audiobook. It gave even more insight and filled the gaps that other books had skipped over in the past. I learnt a lot.

Only criticism are the terrible voices that the Narrator chooses to embody during verbatim comments from Prince and others. Example, The stereo typical Irish accent portrays Sinead O'Connor as a man and Prince never spoke like how this sounds in this. Why use these voices at all? Just read.

A great book for fans though.

Couldn't get past the narrator.

I tried to persevere with the narration but all the rubbish accents and quite frankly silly impressions of people in the story were too much. Every time my interest was renewed by the story the narration would get on my nerves, looking for something else now.
