Summary

'A riotous adventure, populated by a cast of vivid, glittering characters' JENNIFER SAINT

'An enthralling tale of adventure, romance, and star-crossed lovers' SUE LYNN TANN

THE GOD OF LOVE HAS FINALLY MET HIS MATCH...

Born into an era of heroes, a prophecy claims that Psyche - Princess of Mycenae - will defeat a monster feared even by the gods themselves. Rebelling against society's traditions, she spends her youth mastering blade and bow, preparing to fulfil her destiny.

But she is soon caught up in powers beyond her control, when the jealous Aphrodite sends the God of Desire, Eros, to deliver a fatal love-curse. The last thing Eros wants is to become involved in the chaos of the mortal world, but when he is pricked by the very arrow intended for Psyche, he is doomed to love a woman who will be torn from him the moment their eyes meet.

Thrown together by fate, headstrong Psyche and world-weary Eros will face challenges greater than they could have ever imagined. And as the Trojan War begins and the whole of the heavens try to keep them apart, will they find their way back to each other before it's too late?

A stunning, exciting and hotly-anticipated feminist retelling of one of the greatest love stories in Greek mythology. Luna McNamara's exquisitely written debut will appeal to fans of Madeline Miller, Jennifer Saint and Susan Stokes-Chapman.

Flat voice actors

So many errors in pronunciation! The thigh bone was pronounced as ‘fem-err’ rather than ‘fee-mur’ and basic accepted classical Greek names were mangled. I wish I’d read it rather than listened to it

I enjoyed the story

I don’t know the story well, but enjoyed it. I felt like some parts could have been extended, it felt like a chunk was missing. My issue with the performances was the male narrator’s pronunciation of words with a “th” sound, he used “f” instead which is a bug bear of mine unfortunately. I’ve just started a Herc and there’s another narrator doing the same!!
It’s not a terrible listen, but it’s not the best.

Felt like listening to fan fiction

It was entertaining enough but it wasn’t amazingly written. some of the dialogue felt anachronistic with the rest of the story, and there were continuity errors that bothered me.

Couldn’t put it away

I think the wittier wanted this love story to be told in a more equal perspective. Well, she did a good job!

AI?

Feels like this is both written and read by AI. I do wonder if the prose would come across better with different performances because this is amateur and robotic.

Its just a bad retelling…

I really wanted to like it, but the author has changed too much of the story, so much so that I did not recognize it. The performances are odd in the sense that the voices do not pair well at all. One has a serious, manly voice, and the other is a childish/annoying teenager.

not great

I feel like I stumbled across something written quickly by someone who is a fan of great books like Circe and Clytemnestra. So many continuity errors, and the characters were annoying to say the least, and the narration was odd
