Summary

The central theme of these 13 short stories mirrors Dorothy Edwards’s own life: that of people’s inability to fully empathize with each other. Her characters mix on a social level, often over tea, at the piano, or on walks, but when they fully reach out to each other, only disappointment ensues as they fail to come into human contact on anything but a superficial level. The stories are both sad and moving and deserve a wider audience.
