Summary

Contains books 1 and 2 of the Rise of the Ancient Gods series.

If it's peace you want don't ever be Jon Ryan. He's lived two billion years in the android host he transferred to when asked to save humankind. Darn thing won't wear out. Since successfully ensuring the survival of the population of doomed Earth, Jon wanted to die. He was switched off with the promise of never being powered up again. Yeah, Jon's never been that kind of lucky. He was forced to fight and win a war with the most powerful enemy he'd ever faced, the Berrillians. Then he longed for rest.

Not in a universe that Jon lives in. A few hundred years after the Adamant War whispers of a new and existential threat began to be heard. People disappeared without a trace. Planets vanished without leaving a pebble behind. And someone was hiding impossible elements at the scenes of these mysteries. Anti-gold sitting right out in the open where it could not possibly be stable.

For better or worse Jon came to learn that the impending invasion of our universe would be by a species calling themselves the Ancient Gods. This malevolent, destructive, and merciless horde was bent on one thing alone. They wanted to have fun destroying our universe. They'd done it to others and couldn't wait to get the party started here. One factor, one force of nature stood between the Ancient Gods's success or their failure. You have to know it was the reluctant Jon Ryan.

But could he pull another miracle out of his hat? Could he triumph over the unbeaten Ancient Gods? If Las Vegas still existed no one there would touch Jon's odds.

Jon assembles his old crew, Toño, Sapale, Al, and his ship's AI Stingray. But they have little time to learn about their enemy and less chance of victory that ever before. After all they were facing god this time out. But, if there was an unwinnable fight anywhere Jon Ryan would rather be at the center of it than waiting to hear how badly it went. Yeah, #fighterpilot. You gotta love those jet jockeys.

Outstanding

Very slight spoiler alert. VERY slight. Absolutely hilarious. Scott Aiello's reading is beyond brilliant with loads of accents. Worth every penny. I have listened to the first two John Ryan books which were good but not to this level, but seem to have have missed some so will correct that immediately. Hopefully the missing one's will be as good as this. An accident put me in a wheelchair so my daughter takes me to the park every day for half an hour where I listen to to my audible books. Once John Ryan gets to the Ancient Gods universe I was constantly laughing out loud, and I do mean constantly. Just so funny. Highly recommend.

second time around 3rd on some ;)

I enjoy the seris as a whole its a epic journey thats can't be judged on one book but gods seris is little bit 2 fantasy for me prefer more sci fi story's that being said its still good fun reading it as its part of his journey think what I mean is don't let the fantasy put you of !!!

Back on form

This title is Craig Robertson bringing John back to top form, a real laugh out loud belter of an audiobook. After Galaxy on Fire Publisher’s Pack 2, I was a little worried about the series. Pack 3 was better, but this knocked it out of the park and I can’t wait to get the next pack of this series!
As always, Scott Aiello brings the characters to life and absolutely nails them.

Good listen for a credit.

I liked the book but I'm wondering if I've skipped a book or series because it took a while to figure out where and when this fit into the Ryanverse. Still worth a full four stars. I'd have liked to have had some input from the Als. Looking forward to listening to the next publishers pack. There are a lot of Jon Ryan books and it'd be nice if Audible could list them all in a logical series.
