About this listen
A simple car accident changed the path of six-year-old Sean Rogers’ life forever. His single mother checked into the hospital as a vibrant young woman and checked out as a full-blown opioid addict. From that day forward, Sean’s life became a silent nightmare of abuse, neglect, chronic hunger, and slow, helpless withdrawal from everything and everyone he loved.
In Rising Above, Green Beret Sean Rogers chronicles the toughest battle of his life: the long, painful fight to confront his darkest fears and reclaim his life. After struggling as a young man to accept the raw trauma of his past, he eventually learned to understand and embrace it, ultimately using it to become an elite Special Forces operator.
Through this profoundly honest and inspiring memoir, Rogers explores what it means to make the pain of your past work for you, showing you how to harness the truth of your own reality and take control of your destiny.

Emotional journey
For a first time author this book is well written and being read by the author enhanced the experience. It lays out all the victories and defeats and they ways in which Buck has risen above and got past these situations without sounding pushy or in your face with his accomplishments. Overall fantastic book that may give those struggling the direction to move forward.

Chapter one
Fantastic listen, thanks Sean, patiently awaiting a further instalment.
The book pretty much sums up where a lot of us come from, over time realising that everything we want there’s likely to be some form of sacrifice or trade off to get you there (at least that’s how it feels when you’re going through it).
Inspirational, I agree, don’t leave the same way you entered this life.
Thanks

not just the same old stuff
this is a brief one, but it's a pure and honest take on life. I read a lot of books like this so expected a lot of the same old things, but was surprised how many new things I picked up on that I will most certainly use in my own life going forwards.
highly recommend, and I can't wait for the future release from Rogers

Truly inspiring
Having seen the author's friendly and informative youtube content I was aghast to hear what he had to go through and overcome from his childhood.
This is one of the most impactful books I've been fortunate enough to come across and I know I'll be returning to it. His message of how we can draw strength by coming to terms with our early life traumas has given me real encouragement and honestly it felt strange and very welcome to have him frame these experiences in a way that is so parallel to how I have been trying to make sense of my own childhood.
Wishing everyone the best with their inner struggles and looking forward to the next book from Sean Rogers!
