Summary
It’s day one of Darren Corliss’ career as a detective, and not only has he been assigned a notoriously difficult partner, but the guy might also be a pill-popping dirty cop. Internal Affairs needs proof, and Darren gets to be their eyes and ears whether he wants to or not.
Detective Andreas Ruffner doesn’t play by the rules, and he doesn’t play well with others. With bodies piling up and a list of suspects who are way above his pay grade, the last thing he needs is a wet-behind-the-ears kid for a partner. Or babysitter. Not even if that partner is easy on the eyes.
As Darren gains Andreas’ hard-won trust, they both realize there’s more than just mutual suspicion simmering beneath the surface. But their investigation is heating up as quickly as their relationship, and Darren has no choice but to go along with Andreas’ unorthodox - and borderline unethical - methods. As IA puts the squeeze on Darren to give up the man he’s falling for, he has to wonder - is Andreas the only cop left in this town who isn’t dirty?

Even better the second time around!
5 Stars
Can a book be even better the second time around? Why, yes, it can, especially when Michael Ferraiuolo is the one narrating it!
Okay, so I read this series when it came out the first time and I loved it. It has such a fantastic balance between Darren and Andreas being forced to work together as partners and Darren realizing Andreas is not quite as everyone perceives him, the underlying attraction between them and the complex case Darren and Andreas find themselves working on.
Everyone at the precinct thinks Andreas Ruffner is a dirty cop and a drug addict that gets away with murder because of his ability to close more cases by himself than other detective couples. Being forced to work with newly-minted detective Darren Corliss makes Andreas even grumpier than usual, but as they work together, both of them start seeing the other in a new light and discovering that this partnership might actually work.
Andreas is a gruff, hardworking, rough around the edges police detective and has no patience for fools (which is like 95% of his coworkers, with the exception of Paula, Darren and sometimes their chief) and with a soft spot for his kids. Darren is way younger and newer at being a detective, but equally hardworking and steadfast. At first, he's not sure what to make of Andreas, but one thing is certain, the man gets results no matter what he does to get them. I loved that they were both unsure what to make of the other at first, but slowly began trusting each other and actually becoming friends before they gave in to the attraction they felt for each other. Darren gave Andreas something he hadn't even known he'd been missing, a partner he could rely on and trust that would have his back in all things and he was prepared to support Darren in the same way, especially after they both confided in each other, Andreas with the reason for him popping pills and Darren with his brother's illness.
L.A, Witt and Cari Z. did such a fantastic job with their collaboration, the writing is stellar and the case was interesting, fast-paced, well-thought-out and it was great seeing how things developed until they came to a head. And while there are 3 more books in this arc, this installment ends in a satisfying manner and whets your appetite for the next one.
While I really enjoyed Risky Behavior the first time around, let me tell you that listening to Michael Ferraiuolo performing it just brings it to a whole other level of excellence. Really, the ebooks were great, but the audio is brilliant. Michael did such an awesome job bringing Darren and Andreas to life and making the story even better for me.

Slow start, action finish
Fabulously narrated cop drama, with each MC having their own "voice". Slow burn plot, twisting the yarns to pull all the threads to a full on action finish. Well written, good dialogue, showcased an intelligent tale and intelligent well-balanced MCs. No stupid or silly shenanigans here, also not a vehicle for soft porn. The passion and physical interaction was true to the story. IT WAS A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO.

Loved it - great start to series.
I became engaged with the story and characters from the start, I just had to know what happened. There was a good mix of detective work and romance without one overpowering the other.
The last chapters were really gripping and a great end to the first book.
Michael's narration was really good, as always, with clear definition between the various characters.
On to Book 2

Enjoyable story
The story and characters are engaging and the narrator has very distinctive voices for each character, always a plus for me.

run off the mill
When you read a lot and appreciate originality, you can skip this. The rough detective outcast? Seen that. The high placed villain with the law in their pocket? Seen that. A grumpy main character that is just misunderstood, finding a sunshine lover? Seen that.
There is nothing wrong and the narration is good.

A bad experience
Having bought both the kindle book and the audio book. I was surprised to have difficulties with both, The story was a great disappointment; weak writing couldn't fill out the quite good plot.
The Audio didn't download beyond chapter two, although it said that there was 7 hours yet to go. The following hours of frustration with Audiobooks to try and get it to download correctly, or to get a refund, ended in me writing it off as a bad loss.
Saddest of all, the reader's voice was the major selling point.
