About this listen

A brand-new recording narrated by Georgia Tennant, star of Doctor Who: Dreamland and Staged.

Who will take the Cotswold Crown?

Into the cut-throat world of Corinium television comes Declan O'Hara, a mega-star of great glamour and integrity with a radiant feckless wife, a handsome son and two ravishing teenage daughters. Living rather too closely across the valley is Rupert Campbell-Black, divorced and as dissolute as ever, and now the Tory Minister for Sport.

Declan needs only a few days at Corinium to realize that the Managing Director, Lord Baddingham, is a crook who has recruited him merely to help retain the franchise for Corinium. Baddingham has also enticed Cameron Cook, a gorgeous but domineering woman executive, to produce Declan's program. Declan and Cameron detest each other, provoking a storm of controversy into which Rupert plunges with his usual abandon.

As a rival group emerges to pitch for the franchise, reputations ripen and decline, true love blossoms and burns, marriages are made and shattered, and sex raises its (delicious) head at almost every throw as, in bed and boardroom, the race is on to capture the Cotswold Crown.

Escapism at its finest

A romp of a book, narrated fantastically by Georgia Tennant. Her voices really brought it to life. I hope she re-narrates the rest of the Rutshire Chronicles too!

Dodgy geography

Loved the story and almost feel like I know the characters personally
Jilly Cooper is a master storyteller!
After “Riders” it was lovely to read about the vulnerable side of RCB.
However, the locations were all wrong.
Colchester is at least an hour from London and at least 3 hours from Gloucester.
Not sure how the characters could hop in and out so easily and within a few minutes

Bloody brilliant! Shoulder pads and debauchery

Loved this book! Guilty pleasure! Took a while to work out all the characters but once I’d got it the book flew and I was totally immersed in the world of testosterone, rivalry, debauchery, scandal and romance to boot. The 80’s are back 👍🏻👍🏻

Fantastic story and wonderful narration

This audiobook has been my constant companion this summer. I knew the story but the awesome narration just added something to it. I hope Georgia Tennant will read all of the Jilly Cooper back catalogue now!

A wonderful holiday “read” with the best narrator ever!

Just spent a blissful week by the pool on holiday listening to Georgia Tennant’s amazing narration of Rivals. It’s a great book full of brilliant characters who are brought to life by Georgia’s fab accents and perfect timings. Thoroughly recommend to all. Having read all Jilly Coopers books years ago it was a real treat to rediscover this classic. Please can Georgia now narrate all all her other books? Particularly Riders and Polo - her Rupert Campbell-Black drawl was spot on! 👏👏

Fun, frothy and a burst of sunshine

Very well narrated piece of nostalgia by Georgia Tennant, only spoilt by mispronunciation of iconic brand names for those of us who remember (and loved) them at the time, which slightly breaks the spell and destroys the magic. Not the narrator's fault - I'm sure she's far too young to remember. But details the producers needed to attend to, especially given the profile of Rivals at the moment and the hours that have gone into the recording.

First class narration

I’ve listened to a couple of these books now and Georgia Tennants is by far the best. I hope she does more of them.
