Summary

As lead singer and songwriter for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis has lived life on the razor's edge. Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. In Scar Tissue, Kiedis proves himself to be as compelling a memoirist as he is a lyricist, giving us a searingly honest account of the life from which his music has evolved.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are that rare breed of rock band: critically lauded and popularly embraced by millions of fans, their albums consistently sell into the stratosphere—their CD Californication sold over 13 million copies alone.

Now, in Scar Tissue, Anthony Kiedis defies the rock star clichés. In his telling, we can see everything he has done has been part of a passionate journey. Kiedis is a man "in love with everything"—the darkness, the death, the disease. Even his descent into drug addiction was a part of that journey; another element that he has transformed into art. Scar Tissue is a fascinating account of a fast-lane life, addiction, and a moving story of eventual recovery and redemption.

One of the most honest and heavy biographies ever told

Being a huge chilis fan. I knew lots of the things jn this book ,
I read it the day it came out ,

And somewhere along the line. I lost it ! I’ve just binge listened it !!

Fascinating yet tragic life , a truly incredible story ,

Highly recommended

Loved is from start to finish!

I really enjoyed this book! Mind-blowing real life stories & the openness about Anthony’s life long drug addition. I can’t imagine how vulnerable he must have felt staring this with the whole world. It definitely showed me a very different point of view on life and the band. I started listening as a non RHCP fan and ended up playing some of their songs on repeat. I also watched the ‘Funk Monks’ documentary and thoroughly enjoyed it.

What an interesting book!

I actually half read this and half listened to it. The accents the narrater puts on in parts is annoying but Anthony Kiedis’ story is so interesting! I really enjoyed this

Well he had sex a lot an matched this with drugs

To be honest parts of the book made me hate Antony, but other sections literally explained RHCP music an his feeling. Which is amazing, an utterly endearing. It's a bizarre life, it's a story worth knowing.

Excellent,

Though it was hard to keep track of his girlfriends the story is amazing and a interesting insight in addiction.

Good story but now don’t like the man

Good in-depth very interesting story well written. Personally it’s just put me off him, bit of a bully and glorified heroin like it’s cool. Not for me

Hard to put down

Never been a huge fan of the Chilli Peppers, but thought I'd give this a read based on a few friends raving about it. The hype was certainly justified, this man has had a really interesting life. A great document showing the contrast between his humble beginnings in a mid-western town, to running around Los Angeles like a dog with two d*cks, loaded on cocaine and heroin. The relationships, the friendships, the variety of drugs, the losses, the gains...listened to the whole 14 hours in about 4 sittings over a few days. seriously gripping and highly recommended.
