Summary
Of all the Legiones Astartes, the White Scars of Jaghatai Khan remain the most enigmatic and elusive. Born of a civilisation that prizes honour, speed and fearsome loyalty, their allegiance has yet remained unclear even as the galaxy is torn apart by Horus' treachery, and both sides have apparently counted them among their potential allies in the war to come.
But when the Alpha Legion launch an unexplained and simultaneous attack against the White Scars and Space Wolves, the Khan must decide once and for all whether he will stand with the Emperor or the Warmaster...or neither.

Refreshing!
The White Scars perspective was a refreshingly different point of view. Loved the turmoil within the legion

White Scars finally join the fray
Great insights into one of my favourite chapters. Brilliant narration as well. One of the better titles in the series.

Do not skip - Essential and gripping White Scars and Primarch lore
I actually skipped this one but went back to it after a few books - and thank god I did. This is a really good addition to the HH series, and probably in my top five. First proper close up look at the WS, and fills in a nice gap. I blasted through it very quickly. Some awesome primarch content here, and the perspective of everything unfolding from the WS pov - and doesn’t labour on old ground too much either, but paces it really well. A nice mortal character in it as well. As with all the HH books it has an excellent and rewarding climax.
Only thing I’d criticise sometimes is the production, how it skips too quickly into another plot line and you need a moment to understand that it’s changed to another characters story. I wish they’d take a bit more of a breath before doing that. However, not a major issue.

Deceit and betrays abound
I am always thrilled by a Chris Wraight and this was no except although I seem to be reading them in reverse order 🤔
This is a superb tale narrated excellently and I highly recommend it

Great book!
This book is awesome if, like me, you don't know that much about the white scars. You get a lot of insight about one of the most mysterious legions.

I think I'm turning Japanese
The actual story was much better than I thought it would be. Of course there's the usual over description but there was plenty of narrative and plot. The narrator was so strong on character accent I had to occasionally go back and relisten but he is excellent. Very enjoyable.

Made me a White Scars fan.
First off, the voice work in this was the best of the HH books I’ve listened to so far: clear narration, good dramatic sense and distinct character voices which adds to the depth of interactions. Awesome.
That aside, the story is really engaging. A good mix of action, intrigue and background and not too many characters so it’s easier to get invested in people.
The best bit though was the White Scars themselves. The book really delved into the character of the Legion in terms of it’s background and beliefs and how the Terran Scars never quite fully get into the legion. The Khan himself is really well fleshed out and it’s easy to like him. Not just for his badassery but also his moments of clear thinking, deduction and wit.
Couldn’t recommend it enough. It made me a White Scars fan.
