Summary

Sir Robert Rannaldini, the most successful but detested conductor in the world, had two ambitions: to seduce his ravishing 19-year-old stepdaughter, Tabitha Campbell-Black, and to put his mark on musical history by making the definitive film of Verdi's darkest opera, Don Carlos

As Rannaldini, Tristan, his charismatic French director, a volatile cast and bolshy French crew gather at Rannaldini's haunted abbey for filming, it is inevitable that violent feuds, abandoned bonking, temperamental screaming and devious plotting will ensue. But although everyone wished Rannaldini dead, no one actually thought the Maestro would be murdered. Or that after the dreadful deed some very bizarre things would continue to occur.

Best Jilly Cooper EVER!

I’ve always enjoyed Jilly Cooper, but this is her best book so far! Gripping storyline right to the very end!

A wonderful tale of intrigue and glamour.

This is the 3rd time I have read this book and there is always more to hear. A darn good page turner true to the unique Jilly Cooper genre. Love the interwoven tales of the music and the people. A great read with the much loved characters.

OTT AND ITS NOT PD JAMES BUT I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED

I have never read this one, after the awful Apassionata I gave Ms Cooper a miss for quite a while, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it although it could have lost 10 chapters and not missed them towards the end. If Apassionata was all about Marcus, then Score is all about Tabitha. It also has a lot of the characters from Apassionata and Man who made Husbands Jealous/Polo briefly, and in the case of Meredith, more extensively returning to liven the proceedings, along with the dreadful Hermione, Ranaldinni (who now definitely wont be back in any future ones !) and some new and enjoyable lively characters. This book is really different, and tho it's no PD James it's a good stab (excuse the pun) at something a little different and it does make a real and very refreshing change. There are still a few irritations. Taggie still seems unfortunately wetter than a haddock in bathing trunks and Helen has now been changed into a real harpie which is I think a real shame. But these are minor disappointments. In all other respects this is good enough to have restored my faith to go on and buy and read some more in the Rutshire Chronicles series. Well done Jilly, you came up trumps this time.

Great listen for those who love drama

I love Jilly Cooper's books as they're just like a long fictionalized Tatler magazine! Sherry Baines only elevates the story with her excellent voice acting

Narration lets it down

The narrator’s tone of voice is lovely but her style of delivery speeding up and slowing down leads to a disjointed telling of the story a pity

Good story

Not keen on the narration, but Jilly Cooper’s characters are strong and you fight with them and hate the others.

Good story terrible narrator

I have always loved Jilly Cooper's books. Easy to read, over the top characters, glamourous lifestyles, so I was pleased to see her Rutshire Chronicles finally available in Audible.

Why oh why did Audible use Sherry Baines for the majority of these books. Her delivery is staccato, stilted, quite frankly bloody awful.

She has ruined an enjoyable story by her rubbish delivery.

Audible got it right when Geri Halligan did Riders so why change to Sherry Baines?
