Summary

The start of a series from bestselling author Rosie Clarke

Cambridgeshire - March 1939

As the clouds of war begin to gather in Europe, the Talbot family of rural Blackberry Farm will be torn apart, just as so many families all over the world will be. Life will never be the same again.

Whilst in London, the Salmons family will feel the pain of parting and loss.

Brought together by war, the two families become intertwined and, as the outlook looks bleak, they must draw on each other’s strength to fight through the hard times.

Lizzie Johnson and Tom were sweethearts until a mistake caused a terrible rift. Lizzie takes herself off to London to heal the pain in a glamorous new job but she still loves Tom. His pride has been hurt – but deep down inside Tom still cares. Can they find happiness before their chance is gone and the whole world is swept into the terrible madness of war?

could not listen to this audio book.

I could not get into this book at all. The narrators voice was far to young for a war time book and really grated on me. Took me back to school days.

I’ve listened to better

I couldn’t decide if it was the wording of the story or if it was the narrater. A bit wishy-washy. Read/listened to better

Predictable with terrible narration

Storyline was ok although very predictable.
The narrator was horrendous, she made the characters seem dumb and worsened some of the already not scintillating conversations. I hope book 2 is better!

Narration

The narration is dreadful! Especially the men’s voices they all sound the same. The story is poor, long and drawn out and I just couldn’t get into the book . Normally I finish a book in 3 to 4 days but this one took me well over week. Just wasn’t interesting enough to make want to pick it up. Only reason I continued was I’d bought 2nd book in the sale (unfortunately before I’d read this one) .Maybe the second one will be better.

Not sure!

I am on chapter 12 and I'm not sure what the storyline is.
The writing's ok, but the narrator
sounded a bit monotonous.
Sorry Rosie and Claire, I just
don't think I can finish this one.
A couple of days later I finished it, but I didn't like it. Sorry I really
am R & C.

A lovely story

I enjoyed this story but I didn't enjoy the narrator's voice (Claire Morgan) she seemed to be stopping and starting and she did pause too long in places it seemed like she wasnt familiar with the book at all.
The story was good as I do like stories set in these times, but I will make sure I don't listen to anymore books that Claire narratates.
