About this listen
When two girls are abducted and killed in Missouri, journalist Camille Preaker is sent back to her home town to report on the crimes. Long haunted by a childhood tragedy and estranged from her mother for years, Camille suddenly finds herself installed once again in her family's mansion, reacquainting herself with her distant mother and the half sister she barely knows - a precocious 13-year-old who holds a disquieting grip on the town.
As Camille works to uncover the truth about these violent crimes, she finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly. Clues keep leading to dead ends, forcing Camille to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past to get at the story. Dogged by her own demons, Camille will have to confront what happened to her years before if she wants to survive this homecoming.

Love and death
Be careful what you say and do. The actions that ensue from a skewed idea of love. Keeps you wondering.

Not for three faint hearted
I decided to listen to this book after watching the Amy Adams drama on TV. loved it. it filled in the gaps that the drama didn't. Would still recommend watching it. But would highly recommend listening to the book.

Superb!
I couldn’t stop listening . Gillian Flynn is the master of unthinkable acts. A psychological thriller in Missouri.

A bit too gruesome and depressing for me
The twist at the end caught me by surprise but I found the storyline a bit plod du and depressing. Not keen on child murders so that has influenced my opinion quite strongly. I found the narrators voice quite hard to listen to which was another strong influence on my overall opinion.

I ordered a twist, please.
I love mysteries and crime thrillers with a twist, and a google search suggested this book might be ‘it’. The story is enjoyable and intriguing, but the ending was so predictable, it left me a bit baffled. If you came here from the same recommendation, then you might find yourself a bit disappointed.
The end is wrapped up incredibly quickly, especially when you consider the pace of the rest of the story. It felt like a missed opportunity to delve into the complex characters more deeply.
The narrators voice is all wrong for the character. She sounds about 20 years older than the character she’s ‘playing’, she sounds around 70 when playing the mum (who we’re told is in her 40’s) and about 5 when she plays the teenage sister. The voices are creepy, but not in an intended way.

Read this if you want to understand the TV version
Once you get past the narrator and slightly off recording quality, this is way better than the TV version. They rushed the final episode. Could’ve easily made two episodes out of the final one.
Anyway all the questions you had left hanging are in here.

Decent story but the narrator took me out of it a bit.
Main character is supposed to be in their late 20s to 30s but the narrator made her sound 50-60. It was quite distracting and didn't seem like an accurate portrayal of the character.
