About this listen
From bestselling author, Lydia Michaels–When Shane, a tattooed young musician becomes the guardian of a surprise baby, his life and heart are forever changed. Opposites attract when this single dad is assigned to a prissy social worker who dislikes him at first sight. Months after Shane Martin’s sister vanishes, his world crashes down and he finds himself the sole guardian of a surprise baby. Blissfully ignorant, Shane trades in late nights and fast women for midnight feedings and lullabies. But when Kate McAlester, the prissy, stuck-up social worker interferes, his devotion to family is tested.
Kate isn’t impressed by Shane’s messy bachelor pad, rocker image, sarcastic attitude, or showy tattoos. He claims he’s a simple man, but he quickly becomes the greatest complication in her life.
Passion explodes when opposite personalities collide in a touching story of love and redemption.

Excellent narration
I rounded this one up to 5 stars because I loved all the 80s references and the creative descriptions for baby actions/interactions. (Goonies never say Die!) I also liked that much of the story—which was really Shane's story—was more than just the romance. A lot of the drama/conflict in the story wasn't about the romantic relationship. I liked seeing Shane mature over the course of the story.
The voice acting is worth 5 solid stars. Brian Callanan was a new-to-me narrator but I really enjoyed his performance. He added extras like mumbling, baby sound effects and yelling that really brought the story to life. I would listen to more by him in the future.

Emotional
This book is very emotional, it has plenty of up and downs however there is a very HEA at the end. Shane’s world goes upside down when he has a fight with his sister then she disappears. Then enters his namesake nephew that he is now responsible for. Shane changes his entire life for this little guy, and grows from the experience. Then something else happens to turn his life upside down, thankfully this time he has Kate in his corner to help him find his way. I cried both tears of sadness and happiness while listening to this book. Brian does and absolute wonderful job with the narrative!!

man
Amazing narration from Brian Callanan, who brings out all the emotions, angst and characters. Making you want to listen and not finish until the end. Perfect.
I feel in love with our main character Shane. His friends also amazing, Duce, Sims and Tucker. Shane is an honest man, who loves his music but has gone through so much. Losing his parents, raising his sister and then after she dies taking care of his nephew, Shane Logan. I did laugh out loud when he first brings home young Shane, who he starts to call Logan. You could feel his frustration, pain and the humour in the situation. His social worker Kate appears the next day and lets say, it doesn't go well. After one bad meeting, Shane makes Kate cry. The next day both apologise and a truce comes about.
Slowly truce becomes more, but with his insecurities, her professional responsibilities and their differences, a new relationship starts but slowly. Shane is a man who loves with all his heart, treating Kate with kindness and respect.
There is angst, romance, heat, emotions, humour and wonderful characters.

Sweet and emotional!
Simple Man was such a sweet and emotional story. I loved both Shane and Kate. Shane made such a complete transformation from a bachelor who liked to party to a responsible man trying to raise a baby he didn't even know existed. He knew nothing at all about taking care of a baby which made for some comical scenes. Logan was the little boy who was at the heart of this story. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a heartfelt single dad story. Brian Callanan did a good job with both the male and female characters.
