About this listen

All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the duke's eye - and she was the only female in the room who wasn't even trying.

Christine Derrick is intrigued by the handsome duke...all the more so when he invites her to become his mistress. What red-blooded woman wouldn't enjoy a tumble in the bedsheets with a consummate lover - with no strings and no questions asked. An infuriating lady with very definite views on men, morals, and marriage, Christine confounds Wulfric at every turn. Yet even as the lone wolf of the Bedwyn clan vows to seduce her any way he can, something strange and wonderful is happening. Now for a man who thought he'd never lose his heart, nothing less than love will do.

Contains mature themes.

Critic reviews

"With this series, Balogh has created a wonderfully romantic world of Regency culture and society. Readers will miss the honorable Bedwyns and their mates; ending the series with Wulfric's story is icing on the cake. Highly recommended." ( Library Journal)

An odd couple but magically brought together

I liked the characters of Wulfric and Christine so much! I think there is still a lot to tell about the Bedwyn family. With such diverse characters, and the other related characters from Miss Martin’s School for Young Ladies. It’s a magical world of humour, romance and lusty bedding. All elements handled with a light touch. I beg Ms Balogh to continue to tell us about the relationships as they mature. And tell the tales of the next generation.

Lovely addition to the Bedwyn family story. Easy to follow and good characterisation. Delivery good and relatable. Will recommend it.

The series ends on high.

This is one of the author's better series, though I can't say every book was a favourite. I will say they all had an compelling story and worked well singly, but better in order.
The Duke have seen all his siblings happily if not advantageously married. Finds he has time on his hands and a new chapter of his life to start. Both the heroine and hero are forced to reassess what they wanted from life. Also find out truths about themselves, neither character is diminish but grow to appreciate each other.
I hate it when you find a good series, then last book is a totally disappointment. Have no fear this is good to tha last page and the supporting characters remain solid.

The best of them all

I thoroughly enjoyed this instalment of the Bedwyn saga and I’m sad they’re all done
Hoping for a sequel depicting all the kids grown up

Very enjoyable book

I really enjoyed this story and it's definitely a favourite out of all of the books in the series. It did weirdly remind me slightly of Pride and Prejudice which slightly put me off however it was still worth the listen.

Always a pleasure

I always look forward to listening to a new book. I find the narrator's voice most pleasing. It is a pleasure to recommend Mary Baloghs books.

3.5 stars - nice, but a little dull

This was a nice story, and lots of good elements, but it did drag and get a little dull at times.

Superb. I didn’t want this series to end.

What a wonderful final book in this brilliant series. I’ve enjoyed every book but this last look into the world of the Bedwyn family, brought the entire saga to a very satisfying end, I haven’t enjoyed a historical romance as much…with the exception of Pride and Prejudice and to be fair, that was contemporary when it was written! I cannot wait to discover more books by Mary Balogh. Finally, a shout out to the charming and very skilled narrator. Recommended.

more modern twist on historical romance

Fantastic narrator and enjoyable story. I like the more modern twist of women who work, make meaningful contributions, and fall in love.
