Summary

A blizzard, an urgent plea, a desperate journey, and the most important moment of their lives.

Action movie star Peter Erickson is spending the Christmas holidays ensconced with his in-laws and his new husband. In the wilds of Northern British Columbia, they are as far away from the bustle of the city as they can get.

Thomas Walsh and his famous husband are deeply in love. Although he prefers the intimacy of their city house, he's come home to face the reason he left 10 years ago, and to finally tell his parents the truth. A desperate phone call has the couple scrambling. Will they get back to Vancouver in the middle of a snowstorm in time for their solstice surprise?

Perfect winter treat on a hot day

This little winter story was beautifully performed by Michael Dean and put me in an early holiday mood. It was great to see Peter and Thomas working on their relationship with each other and with family. There are several smaller surprises and one very heartwarming big one in this gentle story.

Extended epilogue

Although this is supposed to be a standalone, I think it only works as a sequel or indeed and extended epilogue for Catch a Tiger By the Tail.
Like book 1 it covers a few days in detail and then gives us a glimpse at their future lives.
It was great to check in with Thomas and Peter again but the surprise subplot felt a little out of place. To me, something that big would have been at least hinted about since it was so close.
It was cute though and I loved the additional cast like Sarah and Codi.
The narration was good but there were patches where the voices weren't distinguishable from each other or sounded different. The narrator managed to add some drama into the story

Sweet holiday story will warm your cockles...

Recently married couple Peter and Thomas are visiting Thomas’s family in northern British Columbia for the holidays, when they get an urgent call and need to return to Vancouver as quickly as possible – in the middle of a snowstorm. This heartwarming novella is packed with the feels – Peter and Thomas’s love is the strongest of bonds, and this story is as much about how that bond sustains them as life throws both emotional and actual challenges at them is uplifting in the best way. And just to remind us that no man (or couple) is an island, several angels of the entirely human variety are sent to ease their path. The voice narration by Michael Dean is flawless and evocative as always.

Thomas and Peter

This is continuing on from Catch a tiger by the tail, where we first meet Thomas and Peter. Now they are married and preparing to spend Christmas with Thomas' family. Thomas brings up his guilt at his brother death and bringing joy to the family with their surprise. We see the MC's fight through a snow storm to get their HEA.It is very emotional, I cried sad whacking tears and tears of joy throughout the book

Heartfelt and Very Well Done

Gabbi Grey’s Solstice Surprise is the sequel to Peter and Thomas’ romance, which begins in Catch a Tiger by the Tail. You definitely need to read these two in order.

It’s about a year later and Peter and Thomas are happily married. Thomas has a few issues to resolve with his family, and the couple are visiting his hometown for the holidays. Gabbi Grey paints a lovely picture of this idyllic Canadian town, and it’s nice to see the couple enjoying some time off together.

I don’t want to give away the “surprise” in this novel, but as an adopted person I really enjoy stories that center around folks who are desperately anticipating this kind of event. I have to say, Ms. Grey’s does a fantastic job with this aspect of the story. Thomas and Peter's emotions are heartfelt and genuine, and there are some very emotional scenes.

A Sweet Christmas Journey

Solstice Surprise is the direct sequel to Catch A Tiger by the Tail. Peter, a movie star actor, and Thomas, a production assistant, are happily married and taking the next steps in their lives. When the unexpected happens, the two men will make a mad dash across the country to get back home for a special surprise. This book was short but sweet. I really liked seeing the next stage in Peter and Thomas’ relationship, and the Christmas journey was suspenseful but heartwarming.

The audiobook was narrated by Michael Dean who did a fantastic job. Michael voiced the characters very well, and it was easy to follow along in the story. I really enjoyed the story and audiobook.

Great feel good, hallmark worthy.

The story is good, and the characters are well written, and you actually could immerse yourself into the story,

I loved how the characters acted normal even though Peter was a famous movie star. He was down to earth. The style of writing appealed to me, and I will look for more books by this author.

Well narrated, clean and clear. Michael Dean is always a joy to listen to.

Winter Solistice happinese

I listened to this story before Catch a Tiger by the tail and of course had to re-listen after that book. I liked this book the first time around when I read it and enjoyed as much when listening to it these two times. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story. And the fact that Thomas got his closure at his hometown with his parents.
This men found their HEA in the earlier book, but find even more happiness in this one.
The narration was good, but for me it did not added a lot to the original book. It was nice to listen to though.
I was given this audiobook for free to leave a review.

It's set in my childhood town, too cool!!

I knew I wanted to listen to this story because I grew up in Northern BC. Turns out it’s from my childhood city, Prince George. This is the first book I’ve listened to where I lived, so cool. Probably made me biased, but I don’t care. I really liked this story and I love big problems that MCs have to overcome. I thought it was sweet, hot and sexy and a totally enjoyable listen. I liked the narrator’s voice, his pace was good and I liked that voices were different. I definitely recommend this story.

Like an extended epilogue for Catch a Tiger🤗

This audiobook is like an extended epilogue for the book Catch a Tiger by the Tail. In fact, I wish I had reread that book prior to listening to this audiobook to remind me of all the details. That said, this is a beautiful story that tells where Peter and Thomas are now, provides closure to painful events from Thomas' past, and gives a glimpse of what's to come in their future. There is modest angst in the story related to a past sexual assault, a teenager's drug use, and a baby born with addiction due to the mother's drug use. There is an HEA or HFN for everyone involved. I loved how supportive Thomas' family was, although it did seem like the book brushed past the rape rather quickly. I really enjoyed how everyone pulled together to get Peter and Thomas home, especially Giselle and Codi. I loved Codi. She was a hoot, especially the way she handled the constable at the truck stop.

The narration by Michael Dean is excellent. He really brings the story and the characters to life.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
