well worth it

I've listened to alot of these historical series , from different times of war and swopping thrones etc and found this series among the more enjoyable, great narration and storytelling , gripping and engaging throughout listened in one go , straight onto book 2. First being free always a bonus when starting new series

Enjoyable Anglo Saxon series

If you generally enjoy action fiction set in the Anglo-Saxon period, you’ll most likely enjoy this. I’m currently on the 3rd book of the series, having started a week ago and can’t stop listening. This one starts slow, setting the scene, but ramps up as the book progresses. Book 2 is great and very tense from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat all the way through.
In response to the reviewer who criticised the narrator, the early part of the book, whilst the protagonist is still a child, can be a bit much, as it’s written in first person; but once he enters his teenage years it’s absolutely fine. Books 2 and 3 are finely narrated. I found changing the speed of the narration to 0.9 helped a lot. I listen to all of them on that setting now.

Awful performance

The performance I’m afraid was not to my liking. I felt the poor performer was on the point of committing suicide.

Very unlikeable central character

Unfortunately I could not finish this. Usually I love historical novels as always seem to have something to add to my historical knowledge, whether it be characters, place, time, context or culture. This novel did none of that and in addition had the most irritating, whining, unlikeable central character I have ever come across in a novel.

Never get these 8 hours back

the main character is difficult to like and a nervous wet blanket . Persevered thinking this has got to her interesting but unfortunately it didn’t .

Awful Narration.

Narration was all over the place. Will read to give the story a chance. Disappointed with the performance.
