About this listen

Beautiful Sorcha is the courageous young woman who risked all to save her family from a wicked curse and whose love shattered generations of hate and bridged two cultures. It is from her sacrifice that Sorcha's brothers were brought home to their ancestral fortress Sevenwaters, and her life has known much joy. But not all the brothers were able to fully escape the spell that transformed them into swans, and it is left to Sorcha's daughter, Liadan, to help fulfill the destiny of the Sevenwaters clan. Beloved child and dutiful daughter, Liadan embarks on a journey that shows her just how hard-won was the peace that she has known all her life.

Liadan will need all of her courage to help save her family, for there are dark forces and ancient powers conspiring to destroy this family's peace - and their world. And she will need all of her strength to stand up to those she loves best, for in the finding of her own true love, Liadan's course may doom them all...or be their salvation.

Magnificent .

Would you listen to Son of the Shadows again? Why?

Have both read and listened to this story. Both I enjoyed very much. The audio managed to bring this story to life. You are not only listening , but living this story. Would listen to again without a doubt.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leiden. Her love and loyalty showed no bounds. Fearless and true.

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A magnificent read by Rosalyn Landor. An ability to pull you into this story with a voice that's both soothing and hypnotic.

Any additional comments?

A must for all with a connection to this time and era.

Juliet Marillier

As usual another great seven water book.if you love Juliet, sadly having American accents reading Irish stories. Surely Juliet should insist on authentic accent.D.Wallace

Great once past all the tedious domestic stuff!

Exciting and interesting picture of magical old Ireland. The male voices were n't good, they all sounded rather boring and sensible apart from Bran and his crew.

Great follow up in the series, bring on the next!

The characters are so well developed in each book. It does draw you into the series nicely. There some great page turner periods. A thoroughly good read. But have to say the narrator in this book struggled with the male voices, they all sounded the same. If the book were not so well written you could have become confused in places.
Overall highly recommend!

unexpected great story, sucked me right in

story great, narrator great. Only confusing thing is the antagonism between Brits and Irish at this point in history (any point before 1000); by Brits does she mean Saxons or the Brittons ( former Celts)? Cpuld be mistaken, but I think the real problems between 'England' and Eire started after the Norman invasion when most of Brythonic culture died out. In this era, Brittons were just the remnants of the ancient Celts, ravaged by Rome and encroached upon by Saxons, but still with their Celtic language.

Dark, romantic folk tale

This second installment of the Sevenwaters series is just as captivating and compelling as the first, packed full of adventure, villainy, mystery love and heartache.

Romance and struggle

An audio reread of another great book by Juliet Marillier. I remembered less of the second of the Sevenwaters series although I certainly remembered Bran who is one of her most memorable male characters. Great story. I much preferred the narrator of this book to that of Daughter of the Forest - better voice to listen to, great male voices and better pronunciation of the Irish names. Recommended if you like fantasy and romance with great characters but also like a strong storyline.

Fabulous story telling

I love the intertwined stories of each family. The relationships have great depth. I would like some more reference to other Characters feeling but I understand it is the heroes voice we hear. The strength of one so overlooked is timeless..

Amazing series so far

I'm absolutely loving this series so far.. Juliet Marrilier is a genius. The Narrator for this book took a little while to get used to, the men all sounded like shaun connery in the beginning but either this improved over time or I got so entranced by the story that I just forgot.

As good as the first book!

You never know whether a sequel will live up to the first book, but in this case it certainly did. It was so nice to see all of our favourite characters from book 1 all grown up and to meet some new and exciting characters. Looking forward to book 3!
