About this listen

Edie Kendall lives a busy life in Boston, Massachusetts, doing her best to care for her widowed father. But when he tells her he’s marrying her off to a wealthy but unethical businessman twice her age, she is forced to flee. There’s nothing left but to start over somewhere new.

When she answers an advert for a mail order bride in Fort Riggins, Montana, she allows herself to hope she’s about to meet the man of her dreams. But Curtis Emerson, the man she’s agreed to marry, has no intention of marrying; indeed, he has no idea Edie exists. Thirteen-year-old Sophia Emerson has written the advert on behalf of her widowed father.

With Sophia’s scheme cartwheeling out of control, Edie’s left to pick up the pieces of her shattered plans. Meanwhile, it’s all she can do to fight off her strong attraction for Curtis. Does Sophia’s outrageous plan have any chance of working out, or is it too much to hope for?

Heartwarming story!

Sophia has lived with her grandmother and father all of her life. She has little memory of her mother and longs for that mother daughter connection. She also is feeling her father slip away from her, stuck in his memories and not being able to move on. Taking initiative, she writes for a mail order bride for her father, hopefully fulfilling both of their lives. Edie needs out of Boston before her parents marry her off to a man she doesn't love. Now going west, she is off to marry hopefully the man of her dreams. When she arrives though, life is not what she expects. A man who doesn't want a wife, and a daughter she loves. What will happen to this pre-made family? Will it all work out or is Edie destined to go back? Will Sophia have the love of a mother? Susannah Calloway has another original, heart warming story that just made me feel good! An easy listen, this is one I truly enjoyed.

Sarah Kisko narrates this wonderful story with voices that are perfectly suited for each character. Her voice holds a warmth that has me fall into the old west and love the families and their journeys. She can switch from a grandmother to a teenager, and from male to female with ease and find the sound that I would expect each character to sound like. I love her narrations, they are wonderful and easy on the ears.

Sweet Historical Romance

This was adorable! Sure a few fathers lose their tempers in this book. But, the women win in the end, especially the daughters!
The narration was very good. An accent was carried over between characters once, but otherwise I would consider her talent quite wonderful!
