About this listen

Patricia Garret and Shirley Martinez are both widowed and retired, and they each have a sweet tooth. One sunny day in Beach City, California, they make a run to the candy store. When they are ready to pay for their candy, they realize no one is at the register. They walk to the back of the store where they discover the body of the store’s owner, Robert Wilkins. He was struck over the head with a jar of jelly beans. They debate whether to call Patricia’s son, Byron Garret, who happens to be a detective, or to call 911. They decide to call 911. Her son is the one who responds to the call along with other police crew.

He warns Patricia and Shirley to stay out of the investigation but knows they will pry as concerned senior citizens of Beach City.

A sweet treat

I enjoyed this short cozy mystery. I just wish the fun could have lasted longer but great if you only have a few hours to kill. I liked the characters and the fun antics they got up to while trying to solve the murder, I like the older generation as a whole as amateur sleuths because they can get away with a lot more and In style, I did think the newly brought puppies would have ended up helping in some way, maybe next time. The mystery was also good with plenty of suspects to keep you guessing and I hadn't made my mind up when the killer was revealed. A good start to a new series, one I hope there will be a lot of.
Pat and Shirley need a sweet treat and go to the candy store. The store is empty and even after they have stocked up on supplies no body has put in an appearance. Not wanting to steal but needing there sugar fix they make there way o the back of the shop, only to find one of the owners lying dead on the floor. Patricia's son is the detective called to the scene and is quick to warn them off investigating. But someone they knew, okay maybe they didn't like him much but still they can't stand on the side lined when they knew the man and more importantly the most likely suspects, his wife and best friend who is also his business partner. As they investigate secrets come out and so do new suspects. Who killed him and why? And can they find the killer before they need there next sugar fix?
I liked the narrator she used her voice well to give each character there own unique voice.
