Summary
The next thrilling installment in the Timber Creek K-9 mysteries.
When Deputy Ken Brody's sweetheart goes missing in the mountains outside Timber Creek, Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner Robo are called to search. But it's mid-October and a dark snow storm is brewing over the high country. And they're already too late. By the time they find her body, the storm has broken and the snow is coming down hard.
While Brody hikes down to bring back the forensics team and veterinarian Cole Walker gathers supplies to protect them from the storm, Mattie and Robo find themselves alone, guarding the gravesite overnight in the dead of the early winter. And that's only the first long, dark night in a series of them, because as their investigation develops, Mattie, Robo, Brody, and Cole find themselves in the middle of the killer's stalking ground - where the hunters become the hunted.
An engrossing listen filled with tension, excitement, and heart, Stalking Ground, the second in Margaret Mizushima's lauded debut series, will send a chill down every listener's spine.

Another enjoyable story from Mizushima
I have enjoyed how the characters are developing in this series. I’m invested in them! Again it was very well narrated by Wu. I’ll be listening to the next.

Getting better
The second book has again been exciting in its story line. Also the wonderful closeness of Maddie and Robo. Looking forward to book 3

Awful accents
I can cope with the formulaic plot but the narrator can’t do accents which makes it very irritating.

Disappointingly Obvious
I thoroughly enjoyed 'Killing Trail' and hoped I'd lucked into a good new series. After completing 'Stalking Ground' I am not so sure. Firstly I was able to identify the the culprit when they made their first appearance in the book, and nothing that followed even gave me pause that I might be wrong. Secondly whilst I get that Timer Creek is a small town, but having the crimes happen only in and around the key characters feels like lazy writing to me. In this case it's Brody's girlfriend that is the victim, and looking ahead to book 3 we find it impacting the vet's daughters for the second time in 3 books. I was also disappointed in the character development, Mattie seems to have gone from the strong silent type, albeit with a flawed past, to a bit of a whiny self indulgent person and I found myself warming to her less in this book than I did the last. Despite the excellence of the Nancy Wu's narration I find myself unsure on whether I will continue with the series or not.

Easy listening
Enjoyed this book. However, it looks like the direction the series is going take is going to be more about Matty and her personal problems than about a straightforward K-9 story, which, in my opinion, would be a shame.

Hunting out a good book is easy
Hunting out a good book is easy to do when it is written by this author. This is the second book in the series and I enjoyed it just as much as the first. There are sort of two parts to the story, Mattie and Robo as they investigate the disappearance and then the murder investigation of the woman and the second part of the story focuses around a vet as he tries to balance taking care of sick animals and looking after his two daughters as a single parent but the author manages to combine the two stories seamlessly making one interesting and entertaining mystery. I like both side of the story as they are such great characters and situations. Looking forward tracking down the next book, if only I had a dog like Robo to help.
When a deputies girlfriend goes missing everybody steps up a gear in the small community of Timber creek, especially with the predicted snow storm headed there way. It is the K9 unit that eventually tracks down her dead body in the mountains. She was dumped and hurried giving them very little to go. The only way to find her killer is to track down her last moments because she definitely doesn't want to think it could be Her boyfriend. The dead woman's work with rehabilitating horses has Mattie getting in contact with Cole the local vet for a list of her clients. He has his own hands full treating a sick horse and taking care of his daughters but he does what he can, will it be enough? . Can Mattie and Robo find the killer?
I liked the narrator. She has A pleasant and clear voice and even did some fun accents to bring the characters to life.

Entertaining, listen, and a good series, but at times, I just wanted to shake the lead character.

Book 2 did not disappoint
Another awesome installment in this series.
So much so that my thr last hour I just stopped and listened rather than waiting for my next journey.
So gripping. We also learnt more about the characters as the story developed.
Downloaded book 3 already.
