Dib is an Earthlike planet, only slightly smaller, with shorter days and longer years, in orbit around twin suns. On the continent of Geo, in the city of Velon in the nation of Inimata, a man lies dead in his study. In life, Professor Orno Linus was a world-class scholar: an astrophysicist, a dead-language linguist, and an expert in (and apparent true believer of) the religious concept of the Cull, i.e., the end of the world. Widely respected, nothing about Linus’s expertise suggests somebody might want him dead.

Summary
The thrilling adventure based on the acclaimed Star Trek: Picard TV series!
Starfleet was everything for Cristóbal Rios…until one horrible, inexplicable day when it all went wrong. Aimless and adrift, he grasps at a chance for a future as an independent freighter captain in an area betrayed by the Federation, the border region with the former Romulan Empire. His greatest desire: to be left alone.
But solitude isn’t in the cards for the captain of La Sirena, who falls into debt to a roving gang of hoodlums from a planet whose society is based on Prohibition-era Earth. Teamed against his will with Ledger, his conniving overseer, Rios begins an odyssey that brings him into conflict with outlaws and fortune seekers, with power brokers and relic hunters across the stars.
Exotic loves and locales await—as well as dangers galore—and Rios learns the hard way that good crewmembers are hard to find, even when you can create your own. And while his meeting with Jean-Luc Picard is years away, Rios finds himself drawing on the Starfleet legend’s experiences when he discovers a mystery that began on one of the galaxy’s most important days....

Where’s Picard
Where’s Picard? Ok if the was the original or next generation or deep space nine or voyager or discovery then you can have a story where the main character isn’t the captain. This book is Picard so he should at least be the secondary character. By the end I was happy with this story but it took about 50 chapters. In the beginning I thought the story was boring and compared to all the other Star Trek story it was a bit pointless. No strange new words, no new life and new civilisations. As always Robert Petkoff’s performance was very good and very entertaining

Fun character study touching many corners of trek.
I had mixed feelings about STP, but I absolutely loved this book. It does a great job at making new trek and older trek feel more like one big history. I loved all the characters and hope they appear or at least get referenced in the STP series. Rios could easily carry a series of his own. I hope there's another Rios centric book coming!

A great Star Trek
Excellent story and characters from John Jackson Miller brought superbly to life by Robert Petkoff who has excelled with his portrayal of each. For me an almost Agatha Christie feeling here.

Very Slow Burn
It took 50 chapters for it to really get going and by the time it did I was ready for it to end.
The story wasn't awful but it was meandering. Too many characters, too many again that serve little to no purpose. There were some good characters though.
Rios, who is one of the more interesting characters from the TV show is fleshed out a bit here, which I am pleased about, and Ledger, while irritating at first really grew on me. I think she was the best character in the book, and I would love for her to show up on the series.
The performance by Robert Petkoff was againnsolid but again also, I can't help but think most of his women sound the same. A minor complaint though.
Final thought? Definitely one for the completionists.

The best of the Star Trek Picard books!
A great, funny ,and entertaining read. The book draws references to every live action Star Trek shows, some simple reference and "cameos" others like Next Generation, the Original Series and, of course Picard, more profoundly. Also a great performance by the narrator who makes a great work with the different accents, especially the 1920's jargon used in the book.

Best in the Picard series so far!
I am an avid reader and listener of Star Trek books and audiobooks from across all the series and movies. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The performance of Robert Petkoff is fantastic and engaging like usual and John Jackson Miller asserts once again that he is one of the best Star Trek novel writers there is. It would be great for Ledger to show up in the live action Picard series! She has a personality that makes you appreciate her character and I laughed audibly several times at her quips. I would recommend this book to any Star Trek fan. It’s a solid 12+ hours of enjoyment and worth every penny!
